Another successful Taco Tuesday. We ended up in a heated discussion last night that went way later than any of us planned. We closed the place down and then some.

Since one attendee was sporting a new ring and needed a Twix time out when asked if she was getting married. :?

The marriage subject got brought up. Evil posed the question: Give me 5 good reasons to get married.
Lots of debate took place with various vantage points on the subject.
-a divorcee
-a man married with a 15 year old daughter
-several single men
-several single women

After all was said and done. There was a lot more said than done, but this is what we came up with.

1. you love the person.
2. the person makes you laugh.
3. the person would be a good provider (if necessary).
4. the person's family members are loving and you can tolerate them.
5. the person wants to see you/help you acheive your goals.
6. the person helps you be the best individual you can be.

Obviously the "best" relationship (IMHO) would be a solid combination of all of these, but let's face it...not everyone has a "normal" family! :lol:

And I should probably clarify that all of these should be a two-way-street kind of thing.

What could be better than marrying your best friend? And of course I know that anyone with will and drive can provide for him/herself, but that is one item that a lot of people look for when choosing a marriage partner. I would much rather marry someone who would be a good provider (ie. has common sense financially and earns a good living) than marry someone who would be a poor provider (ie. spends money foolishly and barely earns enough to keep a roof over one's head). There is a sense of security and well-being that goes with the former (something ragdoll alluded to in his post...easy loans b/c of a double income).

And you have GOT to be kidding me when you say you aren't marrying their family. Maybe not on paper, but I can think of at least 10 people I know (and you know most of them too) where the person's family played a large role in the decision to marry or not. You may not be with them all the time, but family often has a HUGE influence on whoever their child is (no matter how strong love is). Just read "Dear Abbey" for one week and you'll see exactly how many problems family can cause. Hence, my reason for listing it as part of one's considerations for getting married. My marriage to B is much better b/c his family are a bunch of genuinely nice, loving, caring people (with the exception of his bro-in-law... :wink: ). Would I have wanted to marry him if they were a bunch of manipulative, controlling, whiny, ignorant jerks? No...because the apple USUALLY doesn't fall far from the tree.

Rapids Chick got the first drag race. 2nd heat went to TomKat. Best of 3. In the 3rd TomKat got out to an early lead, but RChick pulled on the top getting to the railroad tracks first. :x

Several AWD cars in the parking lot, but no one was up to the challenge of racing Rapids Chick.
