I'm not sure if anyone even knows about this crash yet, or who all were involved, but I saw the two mangled cars and cops right after the ambulences left. Looked as though the Sheriff's car got the best of it, I'm sure there will be pictures by tomorrow.... The girl who died was 19.

the complete report is not in yet, but i somewhat agree with helby. i've seen police/sheriff cars in general go buzzing through red lights and barely slow down. if they have a red light, they really need to slow down. they cannot count on everybody hearing/seeing the sirens in the cross traffic road. like the blogger on the journal site said... if you see a green light, you're going to go. you might not hear the sirens. can't blame the girl.

however, by suing the hell out the sheriffs dept... you know who is going end up paying... the taxpayers. yes, their ins. will cover it, then somehow taxes will reflect that. always does when something bad happens to a Gov. institution.

Pointdsm
10-30-2007, 01:49 PM
I just say sue the shit out of the actual person, not the sherrifs. Things will change in point because of this, but that sherrif deserves to have his life taken away(not physically, but in almost every other way).

What a tragedy. I see cops, firetrucks, and ambulances blow the lights by my house all the time, but they ALWAYS slow down at least and honk A LOT before going through... By the reports so far it seems this officer didnt do that, just had lights and sirens.

I'm just glad it wasn't me. I see triple digits on my way to work every damn day. The highest posted limit is 35. Keep in mind I don't have flashing lights or a siren. Accidents happen. Loud music, cell phones, tinted windows, and even exhaust rumble can cover the sound of sirens or distract from berries and cherries.

The officer did screw up .... no question ... but other than his career being tainted, will he be charged with reckless driving or unintentional vehicular manslaughter? I was threatened with attempted VM for speeding alone.

The girl was in my graduating class, so one year below you Eric. I wonder how big of a deal this will turn into, after seeing how blown out of proportion that ambulence incedent got, I'd imagine this one will see it worse.

Well obviously... I mean the fact of how long it look, all the "investigations" into what could've caused it when they had the video and saw them hanging from the "oh shit" handles long before they actually crashed, it made front page of the news for who knows how fucking long and they still have a tarp covering up the god damn hole!

my wife told me about this last night. It pisses me off alot considering she drives through that exact intersection twice a day, and only 15 minutes later drove through that intersection after the accident. Today i guess she found out that the girl didn't have a scratch on her, which is amazing considering the damage to her car. To push a driver's side door half-way through a car had to have taken some speed. The limit there is only 25, and there is no way the cop was driving that slow.

This situation has no guilty or innocent side. Each side has too many arguments to condemn one or the other without taking everything into consideration. Yes, it's hard to think that way when a life is lost, but every single one of us cannot say we've never been reckless or endangered someone. It's was an ACCIDENT, either side of it could've happened to anyone.

it's a terrible thing to say, but only 1 person died. 2 other people were injured if i'm not mistaken. things could have been worse.

and of course, things could have been MUCH better as well though. it was an accident, that probably could have been prevented. but it wasn't, and that's what an accident is.

I just hope someone doesn't come back and say that it was partially the girl's fault b/c even though she had the green light, she's supposed to look both ways before entering the intersection (it says so right in the driver's ed manual). But seriously, how many people actually do that? And whatever happens to the cop, I think we need to remember that he will have to live with the fact that he killed a young lady for the rest of his life. Not saying that's punishment for carelessness or anything else, but it should be considered.

I don’t know this police officer personally but I do know a few cops that do think they are "above" the law and this is something that could happen when an officer bereaves he is superior on the road.

Pointdsm
10-31-2007, 12:02 PM

Dizmm, (Old Account)

he needs to get punished as well...

He should be punished as if it was anyone else on the road that ran the red-light.

I feel that this officer should not be treated any more harshly because of the way people felt towards the cops prior to this tragedy, but hopefully this is a big eye-opening for the law enforcement and they realize that cant drive as if they are superior to everyone else on the road.

I also hope they will eventually realize that they are there to pretect, not make money off stupid little traffic violations that dont harm others. If I am traveling down a main highway, and they cause danger to others because they whipped a U-turn right in the middle of the road just to pull me over because my car has an aftermarket exhaust system that is still not nearly as loud as the semi next to me; to me that is just stupid!

i don't think the call he was responding to was that much of an emergency either to warrant a high speed drive thru town. it was a hit & run down in plover. litterally speaking too. the guy hit a building, and starting running ON FOOT. i mean c'mon, you have his car. you know who he is... no need to fly through town at crazy speeds when there is still decent traffic (6:50pm). it wasn't a life/death call he was responding too. but i'm sure there is always special circumstances, and we don't know the full story.

At the time, the thoughts in his head were to save a life. Sure, safety was risked, maybe a little carelessness came into play, but it is a decision he made. Cops aren't superhumans or less than humans either for that matter, they make choices, sometimes with results less than favorable. No one knew it would happen. I bet in our city, more often than we see, cops make that same choice every day. He was the unfortunate one who had a young girl and himself be in the wrong place at the wrong time.... I'm not defending or condemning either, but I am saying it is biased to make accusations against either side when all the details haven't come out yet. Like Helby said, we will have to wait and see.

Not that I'm arguing one way or the other on the length of the sentence, but I think we all need to remember that going to prison as a former cop is a lot different than going to prison as a regular joe. For those of you who are upset over the shortness of his possible sentence, I have a feeling his experience will be a hundred times worse than if he had gotten 40 years. On the other hand, his cop buddies could watch out for him. Just something to consider...would you want to be confined in a prison where you had possibly had a hand in putting a bunch of criminals?

I understand the personal loss of those who knew her, I've lost a lot of people as well. This cop was 53, he was 2 years away from retirement after serving our city most of his life. He had one poor error of judgement and it resulted in the loss of a life. I'm not shifting the blame anywhere it doesn't need to be, but neither of the 2 drivers were obeying all laws or driving with any caution. I don't think he needs to go to prison at all, what will that prove? That someone who has a ZERO percent chance of doing anything bad in the community deserves to go to prison for driving a little fast trying to safe another's life? Then shoot us all.

You can put the story either way but the fact is that IT IS THE LAW for even ambulances the stop at a red light. I completed the EMT class in point and the one thing that i remember more then anything else at this time is no matter what you think it is illegal to not stop at a red light. I remember within the next week seeing cops with their lights on, and they all stopped at the red light i was at, probably covering thier own ass. Not even an ambulance can legally run a red light.

Ok... I don't want to be hostile or anything, but this girl was my best friend and I feel like I have a responsibillity to clear shit up...

I went to the police station the day after she died... I went to her smashed up car and took her things out of the backseat... I talked to the cops there and the light was green. The light had just turned green, her music was not loud and she was not on her cell phone. The cop was going way too fast, he didnt tap his brakes, and he smashed into her and broke her neck. The police KNOW THIS, and have said that she wasnt at fault. The only thing she ever did wrong was live on a town where cops have their heads shoved so far up their asses that they cant hit their fucking brakes because they are on some kind of power trip. And quite frankly, I don't give a fuck how close he is to retiring, its not a "simple mistake," and he deserves to live with the cosequences and the guilt. Yes, she was the sweetest girl in the world, argue about it if you have to, but she has a right to be remembered in some way. They can't sweep this under the rug, and he fucked up.

Again, sorry to bitch, but Mindy was my better half, and it drives me crazy to hear people say that she did anything wrong, because she sure as hell didnt.

Your going to tell me that if and when you saw that video, you did not find it somewhat amusing?

Actually, what I found MOST amusing was when the narrators on Video Justice said the culprit was "known local ex-convict Frank Koziol". That was very funny.

Yes, that was the funniest part.

A bunch of us went to TKs house to watch videos and somehow we ended up watching Frank's video... and we had to get tom to rewind the part where they "closed" the jail cell bars... and it made a *DOOSH!* noise... i think we all had tears coming out of our eyes cuz it was just that funny... that and the whole blowing up of the car with fireworks... friggin genious frank!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i liked it!

Extreme. I was just giving you before. Don't have hard feelings about it. It's just the internet. I live by what you said; if I mean it, I'd come over and say it. The internet is just BS man. Right? 8)

Plus, if you were on disability, I'd be on it too because you have a lift in your garage and you just bought a 20k dollar street "race" car. I doubt any job I'll get in the future will get me a lift in my garage!

Kate, I didn't mean to offend you or say anything offensive for that matter, just the fact that people are so quick to judge and condemn others. I know she was your best friend, I sat next to her in Math class last semester and actually talked to her quite a bit and you came up a few times, she was one of the nicest people I met last semester.... But back on topic, it's just the fact that personal loss creates a bias one way or the other, and if you dad was the cop, or mine, or Frank's, we'd all sing a different tune. We all wish she could have walked away and everything would be fine again.... But there are two sides to this accident and two familes that are going to and have suffered huge losses.

Except for the county cop who backed into me a few years ago. Hel-lo!!! My car is fire engine red. It was a sunny day. How could he not see me?

But what really pissed me off was when he called his buddies and got off with a verbal warning instead of a ticket for inattentive driving which any one of US would have gotten had we done the same thing. Sigh. At least I got a new hood, front bumper cover, and grill out of the deal.

I like how the people who are ranting for him to rot in jail are the same people who blow up cars, collect disability/unelmployment yet are able to roof their house, and race at 100+ on public streets.

I also take offense to that comment...

Why on earth do you take offense to this????? It was clearly meant to piss off Frank.

Has any body else almost been hit by a cop at an intersection before? You have the green light and the stereo is on but not loud, its dark out and the snowbank/tree/ups truck/ house is bolocking the light/ dampening the sounds of the sirens then woosh the cop just speeds right infront of you as you jam on the breaks.

Its happened to me atleast twice, mabey its just my bad luck, but I still think that some of the cops out there just drive like idiots for the wrong less severe situations that give them no logical reason to drive like that.

In the "mindy" case he was driving to a 60 plus to a sceen 2 blocks away from the plover police station. Obviosly a pullover officer would get there before him so he had no reason to be driving that fast to get there.

This cop killed one kid while hazzing him in college, killed another one in an accident while on duty.

Then 2 weeks before mindys accident He crashed his car while drunk over by rustys. He probably should of been suspended for that but he wasnt.

I was linked over to a website that included the sentences for people running red lights and killing someone and they were in jail on average for 20 years YEARS not months

Now MINDY.....

Were the f*** was this guy able to keep his job during all of this????

When he crashed into mindy the plover police department was handling the DUI, with no suspension at the time.

ill just say you do not know the details about the thing in college ok. Just cause he was the head of the frat dosent mean he killed the guy. The guy who died evidently had a shitton to drink and that resulted in his death as i recall...
that would be correct...

There is a difference between razzing someone on the internet and posting stuff about someone's personal life for the whole world to read! That's just childish and rude. I don't understand what the big deal is. People need to lighten up. It's the internet. Besides, it's not true so who gives a rats ass? I still think it's funny as hell and the way people freaked out about it is even funner. I thought some virtual bullets might come flying out of my screen or something!

So anyhow the car hit was one of the workers at the BAR, yes I said bar! So anyhow it was knowent hat the cop was the one that hit and run and he was interviewed and pretty much just got a slap on the back of the hand and told not to do that again. NOW we come tot the real kicker, neither the bartender or the COP had any insurrance!!!!

I do agree that texas sucks ass and if they want to be a seperate state they should be. But No matter how retared they are I still like the self defense laws and whatnot. Just guess how much crime (robberies) would go down if you could shoot the little bastards! I know I would never think about robbing anyone.
