View Full Version : Need quote to have some welds done up.
I'm looking for a quote to have a 3" stainless resonator welded inline on my exhaust. I think it's 304, but I can bring the pipe in off the car,and have it all ready to be welded (needs to be tig, and not rust $1000 exhaust set up here).
So all in all it should be 2 or 3 welds around the 3" tubing, im not sure if it's will be 2 or 3 due to the fact that I need to figure out where the flange will go yet. BTW.. I'm Nick, the guy with the red SRT-4 from the dyno day.

I doubt the resonator is gonna quiet that thing down.
You should probably entertain a downpipe dump and quiet muffler package.

or some sort of cut-out.
I thought about it, but by then it will be a $1500-$1700 exhaust.
That GTI from the dyno.. has a 3" downpipe, 2.5" catless catback. It's like a hush puppy from the tail end. Nothing but straight through magnaflow resonator and V core straight through muffler.
I've been looking at some pretty beefy resonators 6" diameter 14" long. Though the thought of a muffler keeps entering my mind. I just wonder how much power it could rob? I think the biggest problem with my current exhaust is the fact that there is not one single place where the exhaust hits a baffle.

My exhaust doesn't hit any baffles either. I don't understand exhausts that cost $1000-$2000, it is just pipe, there isn't any balancing in it. Have VPT weld you up a nice exhaust and sell your nice one, look and what he did to TC's car, it sounds great now.

Yeah I know what you mean, exhaust prices are insane, I'm just glad I dont have a car that actually has really high priced exhaust. $1000 for a 4 banger is still pretty crazy, but it will outlast the car itself, and I picked up over 36 whp from just the exhaust alone!
There's nothing really wrong with my exhaust that I would want to totally swap it out for something new, I'm happy with, however the cops are not so happy with it. It's really hard to sell used exhaust and get any kind of return of it. Between shipping and just new to used depreciation it just does not add up in the end.
If I can quiet it down, and not loose more then 5-10 whp, I will be set.

You could replace the mufflers with ones that have silencers available for them. That or have VPT build silencers for you. Mine works like a champ.
If I had mufflers of any sort that might work.. even stock the srt-4 has no mufflers.. just two straight through resonators. By federal laws the turbine wheel of the turbo act as a muffler, thus require no conventional muffler to be used.
removable silencers in my exhaust tips would be bad ass.

^^^ I'm betting the cheapest way to make your car quiet would be the silencers.

1000 bux for exhaust?
I think I need to raise my prices a bit.
Yes pretty close to.. I got my catback used for $500, normal price is $650 ish, downpipe was $175 or so, 3" 02 housing $170 New it would of been just shy of the $1000 mark. Keep in mind though.. this is top notch stuff.. 3" stainless mandrel bends, dyno proven results.
Either way though I'd like you to also quote me on building some exhaust tip silencers. Something removable and that wont rust is a must. I will post up some pics of the tips and I can swing by with the car sometime also.
We can take a look at your tips when your here for the resonator.

Where is your shop located?
I've got another idea in the works for my exhaust as spring is coming soon.
here is a pic of my current exhaust. 3" 304 stainless, bolted rear section by a flange next to the sway bar.

Here is a pic of what I am also thinking about swappipng out the rear section for. If I supplied all the parts what about what about would you charge me to weld it together?
We're looking at a 3" flange 90* bend to a 3" inlet on a camaro style muffler, and two 2.5" tubes with 90* bends with tips welded on, and two rods to act as muffler hanger brackets. All of will be stainless steel and so the welds would need to be of that nature alshttp://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x246/pimpazzberetta/hopup1_1990_57845904.jpgo. No rust action please.

Fucking VPT never returns my calls. I'm probably gonna end up welding my own fucking exhaust together. Hey do you have some 90* SS bends I can borrow?
S3SRT PMed.
evil guy, had to wait till the truck was off the lift first. Now it is off and gone so I can call you and we can make an appointment to bring you car over and weld up some stainless for a guy.
