I am having some issues with my car and need to borrow (and potentially buy) a SAFC to see if mine is shot or not. Anyone have one I could use for an afternoon?

I have one but I need it until the car is put away for the year (late this month or next), sorry. What kind of problems are you experiencing?

I've heard that the SAFC is bad because since it only tricks your ecu, telling it it needs more fuel. Due to the "tricking", your ecu can adjust and over ride the SAFC rendering it useless. Now I've only heard this, but I'm sure if you search there is some truth to it. Doesn't sound like that's what your experiencing, but it wouldn't hurt to look into that as well. If all else fails, don't buy another SAFC go with something more adequate such as dsm link. I'm not familiar with dsm's but I've heard that's what most of them use.

90% of the tuning devices out there are setup the same way as an SAFC is in which they intercept the MAF signal wire. This type of setup is called a piggyback system and does work fine but lacks many features compared to DSM-link. the ECU will not override the SAFC, but the ECU can make small adjustments based on fuel trims.

I realize it's a piggy back system but there are much more dependable units out there compared to the SAFC.

For the price, the SAFC is damn good. I have the MAF translator...same cost as a SAFC with less available adjustment and no read out/display. Only advantage for a 1G(MAFT) is being able to upgrade the MAS from the shitty 1G to 3"GM.

for the price???

you can pickup a Super AFC (not SAFCII) for about $100-150. DSM-link is $500 plus you need a laptop.

and lets not forget the EPROM ecu that will cost another $200 or so if you don't have one.

oh yeah, so the price can range from as cheap as $500 if you already have a laptop o $1000 or more. Or for $100 you can have an SAFC.

As interesting as all this is, it still doesn't get my car out of the garage :'( Anyone have an SAFC that I can borrow? :)

If you still have the stock ECU I could toss a tune on your car. My EVO software works on 2G DSM with an OBDII port.

Smut just practically gave his SAFC away a little while ago. Too bad you missed that.

He's in school at MSOE in Milwaukee. He'll be home one of these weekends coming up though.

I don't think I know you..? If I do let me know, I cant place your car. However if anyone will vouch for you that I know, I have one you can use so long as you dont have to cut any of my harness. It' got the long extension harness with ends that you can splice into.

I saw you downtown once I think. Look @ my profile for car pictures - I think you've probably seen it once or twice. Let me know if you will lend me your SAFC for a while - no. I won't need to cut any harnesses - I won't even need to borrow one as I have one installed. Just need to unplug the old one and plug in your [test] one to see if that is my problem before I drop $150 on a new one. Let me know what you decide - if you want $20 of something for an afternoon we could probably work that out.

Na it's cool what goes around comes around :D

I live in Port Edwards, Rapids area. If you want to maybe meet up with me in my area one of these days in the evening that would be fine with me. Do your testing and return it to me when you can. I'm not using it yet so if you need it for a few days or whatever that's no problem.

I'm working till 4 pm this week and I get home around 5:30 or so. As of right now I'm open any day besides Wed. I have an eye appointment at 5:30.
