Tinting has been busy this week! but i love it!

got some nice cars moving in and out here in the next few weeks. New Saab 93T. sweet little ride. couple of nice tricked out trucks... a Vette or two... some Audi's coming up. got some nice stuff lined up for the next month or two. supposedly a SLK Mercedes too. we'll see about that one. and an H3. nothing special about that... but it's still a hummer. what guy doesn't like a hummer?

anyone that reccommends people to me for tint, will surely get a good deal on their next tint job. so if you know anyone looking for tint... send them my way. thanks!!

nope, not too late. doing one today actually.

i have an additive for the solution that helps it dry quicker in the winter months. unless the avg temp is below 20', i don't mind tinting in the winter.

Just had to vent... what a day.

so this guy talks to me a few weeks ago about tinting his car, and i tell him no problem. He needs it done becuase he's driving it on his vacation down south, and wants to look good and stay cool. well right from the go this guy is a tool. he haggles with me on price, and when he needs it done, etc etc. i stood firm on my price becuase it's worth it. I even check in with him once or twice over the next week, but never hear back. I figure he bitched out.

well today i find out he's leaving on vacation TOMORROW!!! and still would like them done. and, he needs me to pick up his car for him now too!!!! and of course i oblige becuase that's the kind of business man i am. get the job done in only a few hours notice, including pickup and delivery!!!

What a jackass!! anyways, thanks for listening.

Curt I have a question for you about tint. What is exactly legal in WI. I thought it was 50% front and 35 rear. The reason I ask is that I just (this morning) got pulled over by a state boy for 10 over (got a warning might I add) and he tint checked me. He did the rears and they were 35 and then did the fronts and they were 36.3ish (I looked) , he then told me they were both legal and let me on my marry way?????? Did I just get lucky twice by a state boy?????

devlish
05-04-2009, 09:20 AM
you got lucky!!!

50% front, 35% rear
there is a 3% tolerance as well, incase the OEM window glaze is thicker, or, heaven-forbid, their light gun isn't calibrated correctly!

question for you, what would make a car tinted 50/35 read out at 19/9 when its tested? when i got pulled over last summer for mine i was told its 19/9 when i had them tint it "legal limit" i know there is somewhat of a factory glaze on the windows but not that much...

any thoughts? my thought was the fact that the car was filthy? would that matter in the test?

devlish
05-10-2009, 06:17 PM
calibration of their unit could have been off. if it was that far off, i'd have asked them to test a window on their car to see how it reads on a non-tinted car.

your tinter could have grabbed the wrong boxes

your tinter could have been a dumbass, and when you said legal he just did what he thought "might" look good (or he just plain didn't know"

was there a previous layer of tint on there that he tinted over with legal tint?

my guess is still the sensor was out of calibration on the officers testing unit

zx360
05-10-2009, 11:34 PM
i bought the car brand new in 05, the tint to me looks like an obvious 50/35, i know people with straight 20 and 5% and my backs dont even look close to that... im guessing it was just way off... luckily i was just given a warning and said to take the tint off... w.e. i left it on... the person who tinted my car has been tinting for more years then i have been alive so i trust them

yeah 360, the rozzers are always looking for some bullshit excuse to pull you over, having any tint is illegal to them. ;) they could also be slinging alot of BS to you also. the dam meter might not have even been on, and its kinda har for them to check the tint on the rears unless the winows roll down??? i'd call BS on the fucjers.

You can have 35% in the front, WITH a written physician's recommendation, that has to be kept in the car. I asked for "the darkest legal tint" on my escort wagon a few years ago, turns out the guy put 20% all around. still not nearly as dark as a lot of other cars, but I kept getting hounded by the cops.

What pisses me off is that the law states that you can have XX% of VISIBLE light passing through the window, but the meters they use do NOT use light in the visible spectrum. At least no meter I've ever seen them use does.

And guy, my 323 is like a freakin' EZ-Bake oven in the summer, I should have you take care of it one of these days. I'd like to actually run louvers on the back window, but I haven't seen any that look like they'd allow proper visibility.

--sarge

devlish
05-19-2009, 08:32 AM
yes... good luck on the physicians reccomendation... i had one from when i was 18yrs old, and knew the doctor. last summer, even that same doctor would not re-write that old note for my new car. i tried everywhere, unless you have an actual eye condition, they don't lie for you like they used to! ha.

yes, we can take care of that oven for you, and i know what "legal" means, so it's up to you on how dark you want it!

35% is decent, anything below starts to look ghetto in my opinion. I don't know if 5% increments are visibly that noticeable, but from 35% to 20% is huge.

devlish
05-29-2009, 08:21 AM
not sure of any shops around here that stock anything but 50 35 20.. becuase if they are already illegal, just go to the next step down for practicality reasons... that, and if you give a customer too many options it takes them all damm day to decide.

i just realized how little visibility there is when driving this car. the stunt drivers for Transformers must have had a lot of fun not seeing too well.

the boat was much harder to shrink the tint tho. this car seems fairly easy to tint so far, other than crawling around in a tiny backseat. but that's common for 2dr cars anyways.

finished pics shortly...

actually, the X6m doesn't do circles around the SRT8 jeep. the HP numbers are pretty on the x6m, but the jeep can hold its own. (the X6M comes out on top overall, but not running circles around it for sure) i forget which is which... one has a better 0-60, the other has a better rolling 20-80. (or whatever they measure) weird huh?

agreed. not sure why you'd spend $105,000 on a vehicle anyways, but i guess if you ahve the $$ who cares. it is a nice ride though. i'd love to take a roadtrip in it thats for sure.

Not exactly weird.....the older Saab 9-5's can do 40-70 quicker than a Porsche 911, even though in almost every category (except for carrying space) the Porsche is better. Some vehicles just dont have the power/gearing to get it moving quickly from a dead stop.

Car and Driver comparison test January 2010.

X5M BMW (basically the same thing as a X6M)
vs.
Jeep SRT8.

........................BMW....................... ....SRT8

0-60...................4.0.......................... .....4.4
0-100.................10.0.......................... ....11.8
1/4 mile...............12.5 @ 112mph...............13.2 @ 104mph

I'd say the BMW is significantly faster.

Hi, I'm new to the forum. My mechanic turned me onto CWSCC. I've got a few questions about tinting. I have a definite police presence in my town, so I think I'd best stick with the law. That leaves me with two options (I think) for my 2 door 2007 GTI, 50% all around, or 50 on side fronts and 35 in the rear. Neither choice seems optimal. I'd appreciate thoughts from those who have done one or the other on a hatchback. How does it look?

I had Devlish put the legal stuff on my womans car and honestly I think that is the hot ticket. It looks darker from the outside yet it isn't intrusive to the driver. I also had him add an eyebrow to the front glass which I think completes the project nicely.

I have very dark tint on my car and I hate it. Even in the day time when I wave at people I know they can't see who the hell is behind the black curtain. At night I pray you aren't walking down my sidewalk when I'm backing out my driveway and good luck to you if you are in the crosswalk when I'm making a turn.

I suggest running legal tint especially if you live in a beehive of stormtroopers. Even the lighter stuff adds class and style not to mention its functional as well.

yes, 50% on the front and 35% on anything behind you is legal... that being said, i've done a lot of 35% on the rear window only, and everything on the side at 50% (so it all looks the same). but even with the front/back 50/35 it's not a HUGE difference really, and looks classy. i've got that combo on all my cars now, STi, Focus, C230, even my parents have on their cars.

but whatever you choose, let me know and give a call 715.341.7446 and we'll set up an appointment. I keep all the shades on hand!

thanks

thanks! those house windows were a PAIN!!! the top of the window i'm working on in the pic is just over 23 feet off the ground, and 4ft wide!! that is the best pic i have to show how high up me and paul were working. not fun. the first tall one was the worst, then we got the hang of it for the other one, and the last smaller window (on the right, still 18+ft in the air) went really really well!

always interesting how the SAME TINT looks different on different vehicles. I like the way white cars with black interiors always make the tint look darker than it is.

the decals about $3.50 each +/-

but i assume you don't just want a white or black rectangle with that image printed on it... you want the birds themselves cut out??? then add $20-$25 for setup to recreate that image in vector art so they can be cutout, and not just printed.

thanks!

oh i suppose i could do a pre-winter tint sale... i just took down my tint sale signs though, guess it could be extended for CWSCC members.

15% OFF, pay cash & there's no tax (so basically 20% off)

still using the good 2ply metallic films, excellent heat rejection, 89% UV protection, lifetime warranty against fading/color shift. I stock the usual suspects 20%, 35%, and 50%. also have 35% & 5% eyebrow films.

will need car for the day. this time of year i'm usually here alone, and while it's only a 2-3 hr job, but incase customers come in or whatever, i like to have the car a few extra hours incase i get pulled away for a bit, etc.
