So I have charter cable. The box is in my living room. I'd like to put a tv in the bedroom. Does anyone know if I can just tap off a line to get standard cable into the bedroom or do I need a box from charter in there as well?

make sure you use a decent splitter and cable, because if you don't, and that's also your internet connection, you can really wreak havoc with the signal strength and turn it into an uber-crappy connection that will drop all the time.

I have the cable at our house split 5 times with cable splitters from Fleet Farm and I have zero issues with internet. I can download at 1.1 MB/s and never lose connection.

We only have the 10 Mb/s service so it has stayed maxed out.

When I split my cable lines I had issues with HD signal to my two HD tv's. I also have 8 tv's including one in the garage so that is why. I had to purchase this: http://www.amazon.com/Electroline-EDA-FT-8-port-Booster-Amplifier/dp/B000F3NFPY
Works perfect now! Make sure if you do get something like this it has an active return path, charter requires this. Also, make sure you split the line before the amplifier for your cable modem, supposedly you are not supposed to amplify the signal going to your modem.
I only have one 3 way split in my cable with some fancy dancy gold splitter. Two TV's and one internet modem. All the wire is top notch shit right from the cable company (same stuff that on the poles outside). I have the cheapest internet charter offers and normally don't have problems. Just problems in the morning when everyone is online at work and in the evening when everyone gets home from work. Seems like at times they will shut my internet off totally just so the high paying customers can have their screaming upload and download shit.

So split off the line that comes into the house? Before it runs up to the modem and cable box in the living room?

Hell, thats all Charter (and now DirecTV) does it. Should've seen the splitters we pulled out. Charter had like 3 splitters running off another splitter. It looked like the Christmas tree lights in "A Christmas Story"

Yea I know what you mean. I was insulating parts of my basement on Monday and I went to remove what I thought was an old satellite cable to clean up some of the wiring. Took a break and went upstairs to get some water and watch TV. I got an error on the screen which is not uncommon from charter from time to time. But then every channel had it. Then I said to myself no way.....went down and rehooked up the cable I had just pulled down. Sure enough they reused that cable for the satellite from the person who owned the house before me.

When I moved in, the Charter tech took one look at the wiring that was there, went back to her van, and brought in a new spool. 100% new, everywhere with drops where I wanted them.
