Let me explain this for you.
Older cars do not belong at car shows, they have been seen for how many years now. Why would you want to see the same cars year after year. New cars should be at car shows, its something new and not seen by many.
Understand it now???

I didn't want to go out in the rain, so this is the best you guys get for now. Soonest it will be coming out of the garage is next spring. But considering how anal I am about things while building a car, it will probably be the following spring.

Still have the dsm, it has moved to daily driver status. Not really planning on selling anymore, but if I were to get the right offer, I would sell. As far as the red goes, I was trying to go to something else, since almost every car I have owned has been red. I really haven't decided if it will stay that color. It does have some front end damage, which if it ends up being too expensive to repair, this may get parted out. We'll see. As far as the MPH goes, I didn't do any sort of calculations, driving 30 hours straight, my main focus was the road.

I'm still shocked how you stayed awake. I remember that one weekend that you just plain didn't sleep, and was hoping you could do it again, haha. The arkansas stretch was to much for me(as i took that accidental 45 minute nap). I found myself looking on rx7forums last night, these cars are way to expensive!

You don't want to know how much crash replacement parts are from a body shop. Looks like my best option now is to find a complete front clip for parts or find a stripped roller with no damage that I could swap parts over to.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/JDM-MAZDA-FD3S-RX-7-FRONT-CLIP-13B-TURBO_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33615QQihZ007QQit emZ170139762155QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWD1V
The price of this clip is about what it would take to repair the radiator support alone. I could sell the engine and tranny and the RHD stuff. Probably break even after selling that stuff. Not sure what I am going to do at this point. :?

I was looking into this as well..... your best bet is to find a very high mile weathered Rex and pick it up for about $5k. Last year I was posting FD finds on this forum and there were several from $5k-$8k with the higher being in very good condition. The nopistons.com forum used to have 5-10 cheap FDs listed every month. The problem is the price this project tends to climb quite rapidly. I priced out a crate motor, built tranny, rearend, new seats, paint, and wheels at more than the price of a new car.
It comes down to the fact that you REALLY have to love the FD to put that much time, money, and effort into a project. I decided it wasn't for me and started looking at other platforms like a Silvia S15.
Stash
09-10-2007, 01:33 PM
Time and effort is of no concern to me. If the project could stay under 20k complete I would be happy. You don't need a built rear end or tranny. Get a complete pullout ls1 and trans for 4k. I don't care if I could buy a new car for that price. Whats the point, have the same car as everyone else? I like to have unique stuff that I created with my own hands.
Stash
09-10-2007, 01:37 PM
I have always really liked FDs. Now that I have really been able to walk around it and really look at it and sit in it, I do love the car. I will not rest until I have a LS1 powered FD, nothing can change my mind at this point.
EVILUTION
09-10-2007, 01:40 PM
I understand ..... trust me I do.... You get my respect for the sizeable investment of time and effort alone. I simply don't have the patience you have. That and the fact that I hate getting dirty prevent me from taking on a project of that size.
Pointdsm

I think stash is probably the only person here that i can see doing a project like this. It didn't help much when we winched the car on the trailer, the radiator support took a bad beating. I'm thinking about a 2g rx7, i fell in love with the 3g's too, but i just don't have the money.
Stash,
Make sure to hit up v8rx7forum.com if you haven't already. Lots of info and experienced people around there to help you if you get stuck. Otherwise let me know if I can help with anything.
Might as well do the pic thing while I'm here.

Right now motor is a bolt-ons ls1 with a 232/240 cam and some spray. Its slow.
Next up is the rear end swap, from an 03/04 cobra to be exact...I have everything I need except the new driveshaft and axle bars to mate the ford inner cvs to mazda outer. It'll probably get done over the winter.

hehe thanks tom!!!
i got a few little twerks to work out tomorow..
i should be attending the auto cross for sure regardless if my cars running 100% or not.. im having issues with my clutch slipping TERRIBLEY bad.. i had my tranny out to retorque my flywheel bolts since my flywheel came loose.. and since i put it back in my clutch just doesnt wanna hold much.. before i retorqued them i could sit and spin circles in one spot.. now i cant hardly break the tires loose lol..
and im getting a loud noise at high rpm's that i didnt have before.. gonna try and get that figured out tomorow as well :)
BTW i got my battery secured ;).. i dont see how these battery tie downs are any better than bungie cords LOL

You didn't get the flywheel or clutch discs all gummied up with finger prints did you? As for the loud noise, might be your pilot bearing.
