So I'm thinking about picking up a used Sparco Evo seat for my Miata, and the 5-point G-Force harness that comes with it is expired. Will this be a problem if I want to do some auto-x or lapping days? I'm new to this and don't really know what to expect.

Nope, only for drag racing where you run times fast enough to require them.

Are there certain time's you have to break in order to be required to have an updated harness on?
I plan on doing some drag racing too lol.

probably 10.9, isn't that when you're also required to have a cage?

I believe it under 10 second they are required, but if you dont know your going to run that fast then you can get away with it the first time to any track.
Also, any car that has a cage requires harnesses regardless of the time it can run.

i think its funny a tech guy will not let you race with an outdated 5pt, but if your 1966 chevy has a lapbelt....thats all you need!

WIR didn't want to let me run test & tune with a prior 15-second car when the passenger harness was past its SFI date. Unbelievable. A 20 year old stock seat belt would have been fine though.
In 15 years of track events, I believe that WIR has been the only place that's looked at the SFI dates on my harnesses.
I eventually got tired of buying fresh harnesses every few years when they passed that date. Schroth has several harnesses to choose from that are DOT legal that aren't SFI dated. I don't know if any other manufacturers do, can't recall seeing any.

WIR is where I would be dragging. I guesstimate I'll be running high 12's to low 13's depending on how well I can drive (first time at the track), and traction. Hmm, maybe I could just buy an updated one, would just hate to get turned down for an old harness.

Couldn't you just use the stock seatbelt for drags, and not have the harness in the car? Isn't that all you need, regardless of what seat is in the car? Sure keep the harness for auto-x and whatnot, but if you can get away with just the stock belt, you shouldn't need a harness in a car like that for drags....only going in a straight line, hopefully!

ya, if you have the stock seatbelt in the car yet...use that to tech in at WIR, once you tech in your good for the rest of the year and then use the harness.
