So the deal is complete. Darth is in the hands of his new owner and I have the 9SE that I've wanted since their release.
I guess I was ment to clobber that curb because things worked out quite well. My only regret is that the Ralliart Xfer case left with the car.
Today I was able to piss pound on both cars back to back. I must say I believe the cammed/tuned EVO8 was faster than the EVO9. I also think the suspension on Darth was much more tame on soft and much more solid on hard. Even though some people claim stock is best I still believe its the middle of the road.
I'm definately happy with the new car. I'm definately happy with both deals.
It's nice have Red Brembos again, a new clutch, tight tranny, and an all around better looking car.

Installed turbo back exhaust and pimped some races.
Darse has two roll on races: PDSM and Greg in his monster camero.
In both cases Darse pulls ahead but not by much. More boost is needed.

UPDATE:
Now that I've put the advans on and remove the front plate I like the car even more. I've put 200 miles on it this week and it was just a pleasure to drive. I have only two complaints.
1. It still needs a stiffer rear sway bar
2. I hate the EVO9 gearing
I'd also love to lower the car but I already have driveway issues. Maybe next year.
I did some race gas tuning this weekend. I was hoping for Darth like performance out of Darse but it appears MIVEC is not greater than HKS 272s with tuned Cam Gears. There's plenty of power from 3k-5k but after that it kind of fades off. I see HKS recently released a set of MIVEC 272 cams. Depending upon reported results, cams may be a good winter project for me.
I'm considering putting alchy on the car but then there's the option of running straight E85. Replacing C16, E85 is quickly becoming the favorite fuel of the "BIG tuners". All that is needed is a set of injectors about 30% larger than stock. E85 is basically race fuel and achly injection combined. I'm leaning towards picking up a set of 750cc injectors from the DSM forums and giving this a try.
Lastly I had the car listed forsale but I didn't get any serious bites so I registered the car today. Now that its insured, registered, and ready to rock and roll I'm thinking about taking a road trip. Check back for more updates as I'm going to use this thread as Darse's biography.

So you're telling me that you can dial in an alignment that will make the car act exactly the same as if it had an aftermarket rear sway bar? If that were the case I don't think so many people would have them. I just find it hard to believe how gung-ho you always are on "stock > modified."

He can make a car handle better without the cost of buying a rear bar. You could now direct the money elsewhere instead of buying the bar.
An alignment will make the car handle great, the bar would be a small increase in performance after a correct alignment, not justifing the costs.

It will not handle exactly the same, but it would take care of the understeer issue. At Evil's point in the handling game he should be looking at tires and tuning the car with what's adjustable on the car. Then go from there, but with the very few competitive events he goes to each year I don't see why he's messing with a perfectly good car.

The car has already been aligned so I'm not sure why you are spouting off about that.
I never said it will corner faster.... I said I like it to remain flat. I don't want it to feel like a boat. If its at the expense of rear grip so be it. I like what I like.
If the car was a track slut I would buy R compound tires and race pads.
This is my daily driver and I want enjoy it for daily driving. I kept the RSB from Darth so it was free. I also plan on lowering the car for appearance modification only. I don't car what it does to the handling.
This time around I want a sharp, clean, quick, well kept EVO. I don't want cone marks, brownbos, and wheel gap.

I don't doubt in the slightest TK's abilities to fine tune a car's suspension. The only point I misinterpreted was the fact that I thought TK meant that a race alignment could compensate for a rear sway bar. I was mistaken and now see what he meant. I stand corrected-ish.

Stardate: Bitch night.
No better time than bitch night to pop Darse's launch control cherry. That's right the ol' stutter box finally was put into action against GSXRated. Darse did pretty good even on snow tires. Seemed to launch harder than Darth. Probably because the clutch is nearly new.
Update: Winter mods.
I have some supporting mods on the way. Mainly suspension and wheels. This time I purchased a new set of Megan Racing "Track" coil overs. Last time I had the "Street" version. I figured I would give them a try and if I dont like them I'll sell and get another set of the "Streets". I

EVIL's log: 10/08/07
As of tomorrow I will have had Darse for two months. I picked her up with 5400 miles and she now has 7100 on her. Thats almost a 1000 miles a month! So far soo good. No problems at all. Not even a rouge rattle! The car is running like a top.
Earlier in the week Darse was pimped by Uber EVO. UE suckered Darse to the Northside kwick trip then tore our of town hitting the I39 south on ramp at tripple digit speeds. Darse was wearing all season shoes and did a little tap dance through the sweeper but held on to her position until the time was right to exploit her 100 octane hydration. Uber EVO didn't appreaciate the boost that turbo blue provided.
Darse had her second stutterbox launch on Friday. This time Dizmm and Fordssuck got a piece of the action. Fordssuck was running so much boost that he dislocated the UICP and dropped out when going into second gear and Dizmm didn't suck his nitrous nipple hard enough because Darse started to pull ahead in 4th gear.
Saturday I got a call from Chris, the guy who bought Darth. He said Darth is running like top. He installed an O2 housing, turbo back exhaust, and boost controller then dyno'd at 357whp. That car had some nuts. I miss Darth's top end yank but overall I like Darse better.
My winter mod list is complete so project Darse is on hold until I decide more power is needed. Instead of adding more parts I'm going to attempt dial in the ones I have now. There's more power in my tune and the suspension is untested on a track. I wish someone wanted to visit Grattan this Friday. Oh well, it looks like the golden sands autox will be my initial testing grounds.

Not much to report.
Mileage went up a couple hundred miles (7594)
Couple coats of wax were applied.
Brembos remain red.
Still can't decide if I want to do the JDM rear bumper.
Still thinking about adding a larger FMIC.
Still balancing the pros and cons of an aftermarket clutch.
Off topic...
Spoke with the original owner of Darth (not Darse). He has money down on the new GT-R and is the first one on the list. Claims he is going to drive the car for a month and then sell it for more than he paid.
Spoke with current owner of Darth. It is now GT35R powered and running strong.

Well I've had Darse for 4 months now.
I purchased an aftermarket clutch.
I purchased the JDM rear bumper.
Plans for a larger FMIC are on hold. Not only is it not really needed but I couldn't find any good deals to make it worth the trouble.
Though our trip to GLD was fun I really didn't enjoy launching hard and bouncing off the rev limiter. As a result I'm ditching the plan for nitrous and all other go fast parts. No need to push the limits if I don't really enjoy it. That straight line shit it retarded. I'll put the cash towards keeping the car pretty. This approach will also save me the expense of rebuilding a perfect condition 8k mile tranny.
Plans are to enjoy the car as is.

1. JDM rear bumper installed. US bumper sold and shipped to IL.
2. Magnaflow race series muffer ordered to replace fart can.
3. Clutch still sitting on the shelf waiting for the stocker to die.
Did some additional E85 tuning but the hard cold start issues are just to much of a pain in the ass to deal with in the winter. Other than that the car has been running like a top.

Darse needs VPT and his supreme welding skills. I have a shiney new magnaflow muffler than needs some attention.

The only winter mod the car got was the JDM rear bumper and I even have a little buyers remorse about that.
I would like to sell my race wheels and finish off the car with a pretty set of street rims and tires. The new EVO10MR BBS wheels are 18s and still factory so I'm leaning towards them.
But I also like these a little bit more especially with the added drop.

Darse is now 9 months old!
Ticker clicked 8750 miles this morning.
The suspension swap is complete. She now rides on Blistien struts and Robi Spec springs. I have no idea how it will handle, blackhawk will be my testing grounds. I can tell you that it has a much more tolerable ride which should be 10x more comfortable on longer trips.
I sold my 18" race wheels and picked up another set of SE BBS rims and advans. I prefer the clean factory look over the bling of big wheels. I feel the bigger FMIC strengthened the clean look as well.
Current project is a GM 3 port ECU controlled rpm and load adjustable boost map. The 3 port is much more responsive to boost adjustments and is capable of ringing more out the stock turbo than the stock BCS could.
No other mods are planned at this time.

Yet another month has gone by..... 10 months of ownership... damn the time zips by quickly.
Twist and turns....
I finally got my GM 3-Port BCS dialed in. It eliminated dicking around with boost pills and even resolved the mid range boost spike I had with the stock BCS.
The car feels much more responsive to boost transitions especially at partial throttle. Nice, but the best part is the additional boost holding capabilities above 5500 rpm. The stock BCS couldn't maintain anything above 220 load at readline. With the 3-port I've been seeing over 250.
That should translate into significant gains at peak HP (probably 20whp).
It also means I could spike the boost higher broadening the powerband and "area under the curve" as well. I'm almost willing to re-dyno the car just to see if I could break 400whp on the dynojet.
The FMIC really worked out nice at Blackhawk. Even after a 20 minute beat session the cold side was cold and the hotside was cool. No complaints at all.
The BBS wheels with nearly dead tires also served me well. I plan to run them at Shawano as well but I'm not sure I can run the whole day without cording them. I have a like new set of Advans on standy by but probably wont have a way to get them to Shawano. Let me know if you can help.
Lastly the new suspension worked out pretty good. I won't be changing a thing. It definitely had more roll than my previous setups but it felt very good on track. I think it will be good even if I decide to get a bit stickier tire. We shall see.

Took Dizmm's advice and upgraded the suspension. No doubt they drastically changed the behavior of the car. It performs 10x better but its no longer what I'd call soft.
Not sure if I'll keep them or sell them I guess it depends on if the car sells before the end of the year. That's right folks... now that I've had it for two years I could be ready for a change. So......
Darse is forsale!!!
The price is $25,500 firm.... non-negotiable.

I'm sure it has more to do with the stiff springs in the back than the alignment.
I'm running 9K front 11k rear ..... -2.5* F -1.5* rear.

I speed stability really shouldn’t have anything to do with spring rates unless your whipping the wheel back and forth while at high speed. What are your toe and caster settings? Those are equally important than your camber.
I just installed some new street rubber on my car, and wow what shitting feedback I get. Although i was running race rubber daily since autobahn.

As far as I know there's no factory caster adjustment. If one has coilovers, I think the best easiest way to set caster without slotting the holes or offset bushings, is to turn the camber plates for caster adjustments and use eccentric bolts at the bottom to set camber. I don't want to get that crazy.

BINGO! that allows you to maintain your SAI but improve caster and camber.
More caster = more dynamic negative camber. this allows you to run less static camber which will allow maximum braking traction.

Trouble? An extra $50 for camber bolts. Thats it, wont be any more work.
Or as an alternative, buy some Ground Control Top Mount Camber/Caster Plates. gives you the ability to adjust camber AND caster along with giving your suspension some more travel.

But seriously I have no business driving that car in the winter. I'd probably end up ripping the front lip off just getting in to my driveway. Even though the Ohlins are aluminum I would feel terrible about salting them down. I have plenty of fun with my Jeep and I don't feel bad about it being coated in salt dust or being sand blasted by the vehicle in front of me.
I did just get a QTP downpipe that may need a VPT bend. I'd like to aim the exhaust down away from the car on the backside of the gate. No more ejecting those ebay silencers at the vehicles behind me!

Sure if the ano is pre pitted or worn down before hand. Anodizing is the process of growing corrosion on AL, and then sealilng it. Good anodizing is actually stronger and tougher than the Al itself.
It takes a mildly strong acid to break down the anodizing. Caustic Soda will also remove it. Salt contains neither.

Thanks everyone for the comments and gratitude. I'm very excited to say the least. Spring needs to HURRY UP already.

I think the car is beautiful... I don't care for those wheels at all. Not a fan of two tone fat lips on a wheel. Glad you told him to keep em'.
As mentioned above that color is about a rare as it gets (for a good color). 15k miles is very low and look how bright those brembos are!!!
I see its already an 11 second car, are you planning any mods?

Yeah I talked to the guy on the phone for a while and from what he says and by the condition of the car I believe him. He pretty much never drove the car, when it did it was to drive to and from car shows. Took it to the track to get the time slip.
As for mods. I plan to put a "sonic the hedgehog arrangement on the roof", Carbotechs all the way around, my BBS wheels, bug you to tech me how to tune :) Install my AEM wideband, coilovers of some brand, remove the Forge BOV and put the stock IX bov in, I'm going to remove the steering wheel column boost gauge pod.
In time I would like to upgrade the turbo, injectors, IC, and EVO VIII 4th and 5th gear. Then add in some brake ducting.

Between the insurance money, money left over after my pay off from the 03, and this bonus check. I'm sittin pretty to say the least. I'm going to do a few minor things right off the bat, but the voices are screaming at me already!

let them scream that money right into a good savings account or higher yeild CD. i wish i had done that a few years ago now that i'm house shopping again.... sure would be nice to have a few extra grand laying around rather than a paid off purty STi. (but i do sympathize with you... it sure is nice to go for a ride and mash the pedal down!!)

I have pulled all my money from personal investments and am only putting into my 401k. Its 100% matched and 25% of that match goes into a 6% guaranteed fund. The rest is in a target retirement fund managed by people that know more than I do. I don't even look at it anymore. I shred my statements without even looking at them.
I'll probably die before I get to draw on it and Carole with end up spending it on some boy toy after I'm gone!

planning on going someplace?
do they put a limit as to how much you can contribute to your 401k per month?
devlish
12-18-2009, 12:27 PM
^ no, but Sentry limits the match amount... (i.e. 100% of the first 5% of your income you put in, etc)
and yea, i know savings don't have much money making interest, but i was getting at something more like a mutual fund of some sort, or shorter term CDs if you feel you might need the money sooner, rather than later. however, a few years ago i dumped $10k into a MoneyMarket becuase it was yeilding 5.25%!! amazing for a savings/checking account!! now it's down around the usual .25% or so. fockers. owell. it's mostly gone now anyways.

doubtful you'd lose it on most things these days, it'll just grow slower in the low risk funds.

its easier than you think.
eTrade works great for just tossing some money in and putting it in a low risk mutual fund. Its only a minimum 90day investment. For active trading, eTrade is a bit on the expensive side at about $14/trade. dont do active trading unless you jobless. you have to watch that shit like a hawk.

Nick what are the voices saying?
They say.. now is your chance to have the EVO you have wanted, you have the money to make it how you want it.
They also say spend some, save rest for emergency and comfort.
At this point though I have enough car that I can spend less and be happy. I've got a much better foundation to start with. Mivec, IX turbo, flawless everything, warranty.
Sooner or later the car will be getting a bigger turbo, injectors, cams, dual tunes, and coilovers.
After all is said and done I will still have 5k to play with. Thinking put half away for comfort cushion. The other half into tires, track days, and a few mods.
