Fordsuck running a Street Mod. class winning time on Sunday. Good thing Dizmm with ASM Motorsports wasn't there because he would have gotten an EVO beatdown.

The Atom. That car is a handful. It's going to take a while for the driver to get used to it and after going for a ride I can see why. I think he is going to take the smart route and slowly learn the limits of that car. He only gave it half throttle once during my ride- holy crap.

Did the ATOM get FTD?
LOL, not even remotely close. It might be within the reach of the car, but the driver needs serious improvement. Just having a great scalpel doesn't make you a good surgeon. I'm just happy I didn't take any chunks out of any concrete walls. I drove like suck in this first event. This cone thing is mighty different than the HPDE events I'm used to.
I did put a few photos and some video from the event on my site in the gallery. http://www.evilatom.com.

How much track time do you have??? I have one auto x and it was at Marshfield. I am pretty sure you started off with a probe, not a $25k evo. I do not want to put the evo into a curb :D or wall.

I can't believe you guys didn't let poop run! Must be a evo bias organization running these auto-x's. I know for a fact that TK ran on worse upper ball joints in his b16 crx at auto-x's before he replaced them.
On a side note I would run poopie for my first few times as well. JJ should have started out on a mini bike, or moped back in the day but he said no no I will start out with the big bike right away. LOL

Tomkat you are completely wrong.
I don't think Poopie is going to help him hone his EVO skills at all. Driving the car he plans to race slower and in a controlled manner is the best approach.
We all know how Extreme drives, he has had a lifetime of practice for this shit.
VPT you'll be driving a shit box for the rest of your life. Putting you in Poopie would be good practice for you. Do it. Do it.

You too are wrong. I am right.
Instead of fearing the track and driving like an ass on the street. Extreme should be slightly pushing the car on the track learning in a safe environment. He doesn't have to push it while next to the wall and who gives a fuck if he hits a cone. Tomkat does that all the time.
I think Tomkat is nervous about this highly modded EVO spanking his wanna be stock EVO.

Yes I will, I don't ever plan to waste 25-35K on a car and plug it into a curb or wall or tree, that is just retarded. No car is worth a 1/8-1/4 price of a HOUSE.

Ha ha. I am 100% not afraid of that super duper uber modded EVO. I already beat it in an acceleration test. Bring it on.
Evil. Who is the driving instructor here? How many auto x events have you been to? Car control is car control. It's way easier to learn how to drive at an autocross in a slower easy to drive FWD car. The transition to the AWD super uber EVO will be an easy one once the basics are mastered. Driving the super uber EVO right away will just bring on a lot of bad habits.
My first auto x event I drove my pace car Trans Am with 335 RWHP. What a mistake. I backed down to the Grand Am after a few events with much better results.

Agreed^^ such as my habit right now that i'm trying to fix, brake straight and hard, then turn into the corner, do not break and turn.
Dizmm, (Old Account)
08-07-2007, 05:39 PM
different cars handle different, but I would have to say 70% of the driving strategy will be the same from car to car. Obviously an evo with AWD will rip harder coming out of a turn whereas a honda with no LSD will spin like a mother. So entry speed into a corner with a honda should be faster and a the exit can be slower, and with an evo, you can just drive balls to the walls as the brakes are awesome and with AWD you dont have to worry about wheel spin.

Racing a FWD car is completely different than an AWD car especially an EVO. Different line, different apex style, different throttle control, ect.... the list goes on and on.
If I planned on racing an EVO and had one sitting in the garage the probe never would have seen the track. This is especially true with a BIG brake car, with $5k suspension, and race rubber. All that learning in poopie will do is build a false sense of security.

WHAT??? You've got to be kidding me. Apex style. Ha ha ha ha ah ha ha ha.
Different line. Um no. There may be some slight variation, but the basic proper line through a corner is same from car to car.

^ More... At Grattan you showed me your line in the Vette and pretty much always used a late apex. I drove it for a few laps and it was good.
Then I took one of those professional drivers for a ride and he said the only turn I was taking correctly in an AWD car was turn 1. After a shit ton of changes the new line and apex "style" I was quite a bit quicker.
Then we played chase. The rest is History.

....Relatively....
Corners are different for every car especially when it comes to entry and exit speeds. Now toss in twice the horsepower and three times the grip that Extreme's EVO has. Completely different approach. Argue if you want to but you will be wrong.
The real point I'm trying to make is its smarter back off the aggressive driving on the street and responsibly learn about the handling characteristics on a track.
Explain to me how driving Poopie an unsafe death trap at ludicrous speed is safer than respecting the power of a race prepped EVO and driving it causiously.

If you want to play chase again at Gratten bring it on. This time I want tires that aren't showing cords on 50% of the tread surface with chunks of rubber flying off at random times. I would have kept going, but pitted because I wanted to drive my car home that day.
The guy in the Integra obviously knew that track quite well and was by far the fastest guy there. He knows some tricks and I'm sure he's logged a shitload of miles at that track.

The race line is basically the same for all cars. Yes there are adjustments to be made depending on your car/grip/power/ etc. Hell there are even shortcuts to be taken with low powered cars Blackhawk.
Learning the basics in a slower car on regular tires is a way better way to learn fast driving technique basics. Small steps to work up the the race tired super double uber EVO.
The super double uber EVO does not have ABS. Poopie does not have ABS. Extreme will save a lot of $$$$$$$$$$$$$ by learning threshold braking in Poopie than in the EVO.
