I'll try to explain this as well as I can.
"I only have $500 in my car." Well let's see how this works.
Car - Someone was forced to sell their car because they couldn't figure out that the spark plugs were fouled out. $200 paid. Actual value of car - $3,000.
Motor - Traded it for a transmission. $0 paid. $2,000 actual value.
Rebuild/buildup - Have a buddy at a machine shop did the work for cost. $200 paid. $1,500 actual value.
Paint job - A buddy owed me a paint job after I did some work for him.
Wheels - Found them in a junk yard and they just needed a cleaning. $10 paid. $200 actual value.
I could go on and on, but I think you get the idea. I've even seen magazines use Matt-thematics. Arrrghhhh. I guess you can justify anything if you want to.
