I believe the ice will be safe by this saturday. We have 21" on the lakes in Tomahawk as of yesterday, Dubay shouldent be too much less than that. I have 3 other cars that want to come race also. What do you guys think?

From what I remember at one of the events, the circle track guys were there, and Tom was talking to them. They were saying something about the part of the ice were the rallyX track is and where the circle track is is the first to open up because of a warm water outlet or something. Dont quote me, I could be wrong though...

If you don't fall through you will get stuck.
The ice on DuBay is in horrible condition. We drilled 2 holes and water filled the hole at 8". The ice is porous and soft. Not good.
Plus there is a lot of heavy wet snow on top of the ice. Sigh. I think the season is over.

The good news is there is still one event left next weekend up in Eagle River. I know the Audi crew is planning to attend. I believe WAG runs it.

Yes WAG is putting on a ice rallycross in Eagle River on Dollar Lake March 5th.
$50 entry fee though.

looks like you can get a 10$ discount if you ran any WAG event in 2010 or 2011 (rally crosses count) or if you pre register (which I just did)

Driving through the deep snow last Sunday the airbox got packed solid full of snow. I suspct the MAF sensor got damaged from all the water. Time to start throwing parts at it and building some sort of deflector to keep snow out of the airbox.

Even if you guys just want to go mess around on the ice, and I can attempt to snap some pictures that would be fine. It doesn't have to be an actual event. I just really want to start learning more and more about this camera, and practice more action shots(Need to work on getting the cars to look like they are moving).
KARKRAFT really helped me out this week, and I would like to take some pictures for him of his "Gods Chariot". I will snap some pictures of anyone else on the ice too! Need to learn.

turn camera to "TV" mode and set shutter speed to 1/320 - 400. thats about all you need to do.
the ice is pretty impossible to screw around on. at least at dubay. TK, Micaiah and i went out there last night to test the ice.

Yeah I have been messing with it in "TV" mode, but I don't have any cars to shoot. Just want some practice so I can find a speed I like best.

How about we have an informal enent on lake alice in Tomahawk this weekend? I know for a fact the ice is good there. 18+ inches of solid ice. We would just need someone to plow a course. Ill come help, we could map out the course Saturday and race on it sunday, or do both in the same day.
sleepersoob02
02-24-2011, 12:13 PM
I called around to a few bait shops in Mosine and they said that there was 2 feet of ice on average and the only problem was the ammount of snow on the ice. Their are also no springs by that boat landing where we race by what this old man told me. I sure wish I had a plow truck id go tear up lake Dubay by myself. haha I just thought I should post my findings although I havent been on the ice myself :(

there is a culvert in the north-west part of the bay. its the first place they see open water in the spring.

How deep is the snow on Lake Alice?
Tomahawk only got a couple inches of snow in that last big snow storm. The heavy snow ended near Merrill and then tapered off greatly to the north.

OK SleeperSoob. Go check that lake Alice out.
Ice shanties - ice depth - smoothness of the ice - landing passible.
sleepersoob02
02-24-2011, 12:58 PM
Ok I found 4 possible spots on lake Alice to race. I talked to a few of the locals that live on the lake about it, I work with them so I found out quickly. There is at a minimum of 15" of ice mostly 20". The landing that I have always used is passible, and there are 3 others that im goingto drive to tonight and check out. The spots that I was told are good have no ice shaks near the area. There is anywhere from no snow on the ice becasue of the wind up to 8" of powder snow. Also smooth ice from what I have seen when Ihave fished the lake this winter.
TomKat
02-24-2011, 02:10 PM
This sounds good so far. Do you have an ice auger to check the condition/depth of the ice yourself?
Let us know what you find tonight.
sleepersoob02
02-24-2011, 04:39 PM
Ok I went out to the lake after work and was very happy with what I saw. There are 2 areas that would be great, no ice shacks near it, not rutted up, and the lake only has 4" of snow on it. The boat landings are also very smooth and would be no problem for cars. I dident have an auger to check the ice depth, but I asked one of the fishermen out on the lake how deep it was in the general area where the track would be he said it was 19" plus there were full sized trucks driving around on the lake. I went to 3 areas in total. So do one of you coordinators want to come up tomorrow and plan out the track, and decide off of which boat landing to have the track?

02-24-2011, 08:06 PM

Probably not if we set out enough cones and ran the course enough to clear some of the snow. Would you want to drive up tomorrow to check it out and see were you want to go from there?
