yes eric had XS's on the minivann. a 255/40-17 will fit just fine on those BBS's, however you're not gaining much, so if the cost is more than the 235/45's, then dont do it.

the rim width makes the tire's contact patch bigger, not so much the tire.

those XS's seem to want a little more heat than the starspecs, and on a heavy evo, and if you like to hotlap, you'll want the XS's.

Was only looking for the fact that they offer only a 225 or 255 for 17" in the Hancooks.

From what I witnessed I was not impressed at all with those XS's. I thought they felt like a 400 TW all season till Eric said they were XS's.

The Kumho XS will not feel all that great because it has a softer sidewall. While that softer sidewall gives it a lot of grip it will feel not feel good while you are driving the car.

It will seem slow while you are driving, but then you look at the lap times and say - Huh?

When I first got my set of Falken 615's on my 240 I did some laps at Blackhawk and was ready to get rid of those tires. Then I was told the tires feel like shit, but they will deliver good lap times. They were right.

I had the xs on the peon before i went to the ad08s cause was getting to end of season and the xs tires dont like the cold at all.The turn in on the xs wasnt all that great and could be little hard to read at times.I like the ad08s alot more then the xs.They feel ten times better and ride alot nicer also.

No, I need two out of the three since the car runs a staggered setup, either 235 and 255 (current setup) but would like to try 255 and 275 depending on what you have.

I have run Direzza Star Spec Z1's but was interested in what else you had in the same category of tires in those sizes and I was going to choose which stagger to go with.

I used the Star Specs for a few HPDE's at (Road America and Blackhawk), multiple auto-crosses and extended beat runs on the street, and thought that they were very awesome and did not mind extended heat(took about 8k miles to ruin the set this summer). USAIR is really really hard on tires though (for me at least) and seemed to really wreck them. I could not even tell any additional wear on the tires after the golden sands event which I did a ton of runs and both the day and night session. I have never used the XS's though to compare.

Having Advan A046's for the past 20k miles, not sure I want to go to a tire that "feels like shit", just to save $75. If it were $200 I'd highly consider it. I'm almost certain I'll be rocking the Dunlops next year on the streets. Race rubber on the track.

Protege?

What year? DX or LX, or 4WD?

For '90-'94 models:
Check the stamping on the front brake calipers. If it says 22V14, 13's will NOT fit over the calipers in front, but may on the back, depending on offset.
4WD Protege, they will not fit the front, possibly the back, depending on offset.
1.8L DOHC, same as above.
1.8L SOHC, they MIGHT fit on the front. unless it's a 4WD, then see above.

I test fitted them today and they do fit, but there is maybe less than a 1/4 inch in between the front caliper and rim. So if I get any ice or snow packed in the rim they are going to get stuck. BTW, it is a 2000 LX.

Looks like I need to sell my 2, 13" tires.

Jesse, check the Generals in 185/65/14 or 175/70/14. I'd need a set of 4.

Now I could use clip type ones on the inside near the motor. But I think I'll just get 14 inch tires or look for 15's and try to get some rims.

SgtRauksauff

I thnk the cooper would be better in snow than the arctic, but the arctic would be better on ice. With ice, you want as much contact patch with sipes as you can get, as that's what gives you traction. The large voids between tread blocks help dig through the snow, and give you traction on that.

That being said, I think for ice racing on the lake, you'd want the arctics over the coopers, because the track tends to get wiped down to slick ice after repeated driving.

Yeah I think their prices are good! AND no shipping... plus your supporting local business which is always a plus. I wish I would have gotten my generals from Highline instead of Tirerack, but I guess I never though of it then... my bad. And BTW pete, you are, and it's too* You could have replied in a more polite and professional manner with a little more effort to use proper grammar...

If you want to go and pay $54.95 for shipping on top of the $83.00/ea for the set of 225/60/16 from T/R then by all means go ahead. So you go ahead and spend $386.95 from T/R. While everyone els will pay $316.00 for the set from me.

My cost may not be out of this world but T/R is one of the leading tire distributors in the world and they do that by having low prices, go to a local tire shop and get some quotes and see what it will cost you for a set of these tires. Rule of thumb for most shops that sell tires is $30.00 above cost on each tire.

do NOT get the destination LE. the LE's suck!!! the A/T's are not any louder and offer MUCH better traction all around. I put the LEs on the old jeep a few years ago... took them back within the 30 day return and got the ATs. the LE's SUCKED in rain, and were worse in snow! the ATs were AWESOME all around. i just put the ATs on this jeep a few weeks ago and so far love them again. very stable and nice ride (for what they are) and quite enough on an SUV

Bullshit. Put those Kumhos on something and I'll show you why I call them no season tires.

They are "snow" tires....made for off-road use. They have the "mountian/snowflake" symbol on them.

And they were rated from Wisconsin, Indiana, Maryland, California, Minnesota, Colorado....basically everywhere

Rated #1 in it's category for overall performance.

I never said they'd perform awesome on a track.....I said they are rated high in every category. They are off-road truck tires, not all season car tires or racing tires.

They have off-road tread for dirt/snow....but have grip on dry/wet also. Are quiet even at highway speeds, I never said they would out perform any other tire, just rated well in all categories overall, and for their price, probably the best deal.

Thanks I have the winter sport 3d now and they are too slippery on dry pavement. But excellent in the snow they have really held up to the beatings.

How about:
275/40ZR17
Continental ExtremeContact DW
or
Firestone Wide Oval Indy 500's?

I'm not going back to the Nitto's, they'll be my burners for this year.

Something name brand. No off brand super cheap crap. Looking for semi-cheap name brand summer tires, not all seasons...

Dunlop
Bridgestone
Kumho
Hankook
Pirelli
Goodyear

I don't want race tires as these will just be for summer driving and not on the track.

Can you PM me with some summer tires in 205/50/15?

If you carry Nitto NT NeoGen VR's I'd forsure like a price on those.

Also, what's the address of the place you'd mount/balance them and the price of the mounting/balancing would be great.
