The guy with the powerstroke wants to bring 1 of his 4 cyl. stock cars that he races at golden sands to marshfield maybe, would he be able to race it? it has a cage in it and passes tech at the track so should pass auto x tech right?

Why is the filter dirty?
RedNeckDually
07-13-2010, 07:41 PM
The filters get dirty from crap that is in tanks at the station and crud around the fuel cap when you take it off and where ever the fuel touches a an area that is open to dirt ie. fuel nozzles. Plus alot of small town stations don't use as much diesel as gas so those tanks don't get fresh fuel as much. But all vehicles need to have the filters changed often plus it will NEVER hurt the vehicle to have a new filter. They know these truck get dirty fuel cause they put 2 filters on it, the first is bigger than some small cars air filters LOL
The fuel pump is also wore out from 205k of pumping this beasts thirst for diesel, so I have a new one on the way.
I am not making excuses for the loss, TK beat me straight up. His stuff was better than mine. (I need o do my homework BMW 335 i's = wicked :)Thats racing. So now i will tune her up and give it another go. I may be quicker I may be slower, i am all about talking crap but I will at least put-up if needed LOL if i want lengths my truck is LONGGGGGG
I am all about fun win, lose, draw. i love looking at vehicles, racing vehicles and talking vehicles. I am glad I got to meet a few of you and hope to meet more. I may seem like a red neck truck guy but I have owned my share of fast cars and trucks. So thanks again for letting me join the fun.
P.S. I might bring it sunday to do a 60' run she loves to launch.
^ That is all false. Fuel tanks don't pick up gas right from the bottom of the tank so no dirt ever is pumped into your tank. Dirt around the filler neck? Not ever never nearly enough to plug up a fuel filter, the fuel cap should keep dirt free from the inside unless faulty or you throw it down ion the dirt every time you get gas?
The ONLY time a fuel filter plugs up is if you have another problem. It can happen from a rusty gas tank, rusty lines, old rubber fuel lines falling apart, etc.
What year is your truck? I wasn't paying attention.
RedNeckDually
07-13-2010, 08:05 PM
I will not get in an argument, But even Manufactures say to change around 30,000 miles or every 24-months so if the filter don't get dirty why do thay say that. I could show you a filter from a new car that is black with crap, plastic tank and plastic lines so no rust or rubber lines coming apart. Cut apart any fuel filter with a few thousand and it will not be white so if its not white its dirty. Like i said My truck has 2 (TWO) fuel filters. A filter don't have to plug completly up to hurt performance. Ask any mechanic he will tell you the same thing. If you think the fuel in the tanks at fuel stations never stirs up look at a fish tank as the water is run through the filter it picks up crap on the bottom and pushes it around just like when fuel is put in the tanks so dirt is picked up in the fuel.
Its a 2003

Well I am glad it was at least a good show. yeah not many people think It will be very fast (SLEEPER). Yeah I hope a new pump and filter change will get her going good again. It has intake, exhaust and tuner. Yeah it pulls pretty good once it ges going. It takes alot to get 4 tons moving
EGR delete part of that exhaust? I'd take it easy with the tuner if that truck has the original tranny yet.
RedNeckDually
07-14-2010, 07:05 PM
Yeah I deleted the egr even though the exhaust doesn't connect with the egr, the egr is part of the up-pipe and intake. I don't have a Allison LOL, The 5r110 is good for about 500 hp stock and I am not there yet!! . Plus i have a spare in the garage so if i gernade it I have one to put in

I'm still not sure. I've got brakes to bleed, a set of tires to bring back and bolt up, van to fill with fuel, trailer to connect, and the car to load up.
I've been outside almost all day since about 9:30, it's been about 93°, and I am frickin' wiped out right now.
I'm drinking some water and cooling down right now, and it feels great, and I'm almost sayin' screw it. But I've never been to a marshfield autoX, I've heard good things, and I don't know if there's another one this year.
so, I might try to make it, but holy crap do I feel lazy right now. the heat just saps my energy like a mofo!

Draven8795
07-17-2010, 08:42 PM
Sarge are your brakes that soft that you need to bleed before an autox? If you can make it I would try. Marshfield us always a great course to run on.
SgtRauksauff
07-17-2010, 09:39 PM
At Brainerd, the brakes finally started to get soft at the very end, after a bunch of laps without really letting things cool down. I just haven't had the time to bleed them since then.
And I don't NEED to trailer the car, but since the transmisison is making some very loud whining (almost sounds like straight cut gears, but it's not. That, to me, equals transmission on the verge of death. I mean, it does have almost 220,000 miles on it, with the last 4000 or so being exclusively autox and HPDE miles, and the commute to those events. I'd really rather save the wear for during something fun, rather than commuting. Plus, I'll most likely be dropping the car off at VPT's on the way home, so he can work his magic on my not-quite-fitting-right header.
Ok then. to sum up today's work: fixed the exhaust leak on the Van. It sounds MUCH better now.
Ran some new discharge lines for my dad's compressor, this took quite a chunk of the day. This was when I was still planning on busting a bunch of tires.
Replaced the motormounts on the corolla. Verified fuel pressure at 36 psi.
Drove out to storage, grabbed my A5's mounted on the CelicaSupra wheels. Drove back, ate some pizza, drank a lot of water.
Bled the front brakes.
Mounted the A5's on the car. Checked the oil, topped it off.
Put in the new breakaway-safety battery on the trailer, squirted the grease zerks a couple times, hooked up to the van, checked the lights, loaded the car on the trailer.
most of the van's packed, just filling my tote right now. gonna gas up and get some ice and water in the morning.
Pretty much locked and loaded.
See youse guyz ta-marrow!

Marshfield is just a fun track, the event turned out great, and even the applesauce was fun!
Driving Bluepy is one more notch towards considering a Honda product someday. Maybe when all my other projects are finished. But hot damn, the power steering was nice! I'd forgotten what it's like to autoX a car with it, much less an insanely powerful, uber-sticky, ridiculously loud, absolutely FUN piece of machinery!!

flosho, awesome pics of my brakes throwing flames. Also i checked both the computer and the hand written results, no cones marked down. But thats not to say the corner worker didnt call it in. sorry man, either way, you 2 were battling it out. good driving!
thanks extreme for testing out that honda, i want one too.
Nick, you were ripping and launching like crazy in your new RS.
speaking of RS, good driving kronztek!
I'll have results up soon.
the combination of rain and slick pavement brought me back to the ice racings days. i cant wait for winter.
Also thanks Blaq for helping out with timing.
Thanks to Steph for cooking food and kicking ass in our new SM-FWD class.
It was mentioned last year and I am curious why double driven cars don't have their drivers split up between the two groups?
So one of two drivers for one car works while the other drives in group 1 than they switch for group 2.

^ at bigger events the cars are supposed to be in run groups by class... i.e. all SM & BSP cars in heats 1/3, all GS & HS & ASP cars in heats 2/4. since the car classing is constant, the car should always be in the same heat. (ok, so my example has weird classing, but you get it right??)
however, i agree with you VPT. split it up. i had people in the double-driver cars asking me to wait to let them in the let the car/tires cool down! i think that would solve it running it the way you mentioned!

yup basically what Kurt said. all people running in SM needs to run in the same heat. if weather conditions change, then half of SM gets wet runs and the other half gets dry runs.

At the same time it is unfair to the workers. Group 1 yesterday was done racing within 30 minutes both heats. Group 2 took an hour the first heat and 1.5 hours the second heat and we were short handed for workers because all of the double drivers were standing around in the pits waiting for their car to get back so they could hot lap the shit out of it.
Weather is chance, take what you get.

I had the same number of workers in heats 1/3 as i did in 2/4. this would also mean the run groups should have been really even.

heats 2/4 did take longer to run though, seemed to be many more double-driver cars in heats 2/4, i was working grid... and at least for heat 4 it seemed all i was doing was fitting in the double drivers...

Maybe the number of drivers in both heats were the same, but the 2/4 heats had a lot more cars doing double-action, and the cool-down as well as driver-swapping adds time. cool-down is *supposed* to be long enough so the car doesn't go out any sooner than a regular single-driver car. That definitely wasn't happening.

Well first car went out around 11 and we ate lunch around 1230 so I'm sure the 2nd run group did not take 90 minutes.. I would say it was just under an hour for our group and not quite 45 minutes for the first.
Andy, as for the missed cone on Jeff's run, not a big deal. I knew he had a good run going and then he clipped the inside cone on the death wall so I knew he would be mad but it must not have gotten called in (or magically flipped up in the air and landed in the box? haha) Either way, as long as he can sleep at night with that trophy, I don't care.
Wish I could have stayed for some fun runs but I had to be back in Eau Claire to work at 530!

this is the advantage double drivers have. many guys that run SCCA nationals have double drivers, one just to keep the tires warm. Not sure how you expect double driver cars to not run twice as much as single driver cars.
If all heats have the same number of workers, the run heats must also be the same. would you like me to post up the worker's schedule VPT?

With 25 cars entering the event it's hard to keep all of the cars off the track with warm tires.
If the future with low turnouts we can do that rapid-fire run as we did at Golden Sands in the past. That way everyone can go out on warm tires.
Dizzmm is right about SCCA guys having co-drivers just to keep the tires warm. I know guys in Milw. that attended events just to co-drive so the other driver had the advantage.

If each heat had the same number of drivers that means each heat had (approximately) the same number of runs... I don't see how 2 & 4 could have a longer session or how that would benefit much. It takes literally no time to switch drivers.
The delays were more likely due to the timing equipment going dead and issues like that, that are no one's fault.
Getsideways
07-19-2010, 05:41 PM
With Only 10-12 cars in each heat there was no warm tire advantage to be had.
Also the 2 driver grid allows the 2 driver car to run exactly twice as much which i didnt get all my runs in andys sweet ride ;) i think i had 8 runs .
I never seem to notice a tire needing much heat at all ,, after the first initial corner / and first run they are usually pretty sticky for the rest of the session ,
Also the course layout allowed for your tire heat to not matter much with two corners right away that didnt require a ton of grip thanks for that super awesome layout !!!

So my Star Specs chunked and blistered after this event. This was the second event on them and less than 1300 miles. I wouldn't think they would have gotten hot enough with less than one minute runs, but I guess it would be a cool if two driver cars could run in opposite heats. But I can see how that could cause a fuss.

My tires were eaten alive by this track this time (chunked up and peeling). I think the pavement of the actual race track was hard on street tires. I had zero grip out there on my street tires compared to my Hoosier R6s I had last time we were there.
