Lightning last night + my Dell PC = FUCK! Boots to error screen then to blue screen only now... Yes, I have a surge protector... Ran the PC through all the component testing and everything checks out so far. I'm hoping it's a software issue. Any ideas?

what OS?
what error?
recovery console, fixmbr. might do the trick.

What kind of surge protector? A walmart surge protector will not do the trick, another one to add to the list for proof if that is the case.

most lightening strikes result in no power, not blue screens. I've seen a few take out just the modem/NIC. try a full reload.

ALL FIXED! Did it myself for free! I did the Fixboot command from DOS first, and after that it would boot to Windows, but was still all messed up. I then rebooted with the recovery cd and did the repair option. That took about 35 minutes, and now everything is back to normal and working great! I didn't lose anything! Oh happy day!

Lightning strikes can do anything... quite the mystery. One strike violated my Xbox but not my PC through the Cat5 cable. Now my Xbox SOMETIMES works over the ethernet, the rest of the time I have to use it's wireless.
I was thinking it may have zapped a memory card or 4 on your machine. Which would cause a bluescreen effect. But the mystery of this type of thing is it could destroy any little chip on almost anything and cause it to blue screen from an I/O error.

what you had than was not lightening.
the only fix to a lightening stike is the replacement of something (power supply, NIC, modem, motherboard...).

Wrong... lightning logged into his computer, messed up the master boot record, saved it, and then got the hell outta there.

Never said it was struck by lightning. Lightning did hit a tree near my house which caused a fluctuating power surge into my house. All the lights got bright and dark a few times over a 10-15 second period. This is what messed up my PC. The power never went off and my surge protector didn't either! Time for a new better one!

its along the same lines. your like the people that say the virus is the reason their hard drive went bad. not possible.

Um, no, I'm not an idiot! Those kinda people have you fix there junk. Bottom line, the thunderstorm resulted in my computer's software to malfunction and nothing else.

Lightning struck in a field while I was driving and made my car shifter go from 6th to 3rd.

And I'm laughing at all of you for thinking multiple power surges/spikes can't damage software...
As found online: Electrical pulses can seriously damage the sensitive microelectronic chips inside computers and damage data resulting in computer software corruption.

lightening damage cannot be fixed without physically replacing or removing a part. if you didn’t have to physically replace anything, your problem wasn’t lightening.
but keep laughing....

lightening damage can only apply to hardware. because software does NOT weigh anything.
lightning damage, on the other hand, also will not directly affect software. Just like when lightning strikes a library, the words in books don't suddenly change, the software itself cannot suddenly change.
However, a sudden increase in current and/or electromagnetic field strength CAN change the order of digital bits in and around the semiconductor material present in electrical devices.
So you're both wrong. One from spelling, and the other from physics.

Like I ALREADY said (if you knew how to read) my computer DID NOT get struck by lightning! It was damaged when a power surge/spike made the computer gain and loose power multiple times causing software problems. So far I have no signs of any hardware damage, but as you know, only time will tell, as some parts can be damaged but not fail right away. My Dell is fine, but you simply fail at your own so-called profession! Oh btw, "LIGHTNING" has NO E!
DIZMM CONGRATULATIONS!

ha, life's tough huh... this must be the only reason your still lurking around this forum, to catch people's spelling mistakes.
just watch out for that lightening. it does magical things, i got a virus from it once. it changed my bits and deleted my boot.ini file. shit huh! but its ok, i ran the fixmngr command and it fixed it. ha,
the first post still makes me laugh.

Dizmm changed it because he is a homo... I can spell unlike Captain DBizmm.
We don't take to kindly to homos around here.
