So I read the hype and watch the trailers about Redline. It looks like an interesting movie to me so tonight I want to go see it.

Well it's not playing in town here. Not playing at Cedar Creek in Wausau. I look online and it's only playing at 3 theaters in the whole state. 2 near Milwaukee and 1 in LaCrosse.

WTF. :( :? :( I have to drive at least 2 hours one way to see this film.

That's probably a sign of how well it's doing.... It really wasn't all that advertised on TV either I didn't think. I don't watch TV much, but I saw way more pop-ups and ads for it on the internet than I saw on TV.

The movie isn't going to do very well if only a very small handful of theaters will play it. I thought it was tough to see Worlds Fastest Indian, but I only had to drive 1 hour to see that one.

OK Friday:

Lapping.
Fuddruckers.
Redline.

The fact that it is playing at a few theatres will not have a bearing at all on how popular it will be and in fact the people who make money off of it will probably make more than they would've because now they have to make less copies. If they made more and sent them all over the place they wouldn't make as much as they put into it. At least now they will come out on top.

How much can it cost to make another copy of a movie? There are literally hundreds of thousands of people is just Wisconsin alone that are not able to see this movie at a theater. You'd lose a potential audience that big because it's too expensive to make some copies???

Is this a joke SolMan?

they release a movie in only a few areas first...big markets such as milwaukee and lacrosse is a big market to cause of location. if it shits the bed they are not going to offer it to wider markets cause it will cost them more to make it ship it advertise etc....not worth it.

If that's true why are there so many other movies that just came out playing in Point? LaCrosse is a big area???? Guy what about Madison and the Fox Valley?

No joke...The theatres pay anywhere between 5-15 thousand dollars for one movie at their theatre. So on top of making all the copies they need to know for sure that the theatres are actually going to buy them because if not as many buy them as there are made that is a lot of money down the drain. And yes the cost of making the reels and sending them out to the theatres can be way more than what that one theatre would make. So it actually makes a lot of sense to have certain movies be limited release. Especially ones that are not expected to be a huge hit.
