Well I was playing intramural basketball on wed night. My team made it to the final four, I went for a shot someone fouled me and I dislocated my knee. Got to go ride in the ambulance to the hospital where they shot me up with pain killers so I would stop passing out. Once I arrived they put my knee back into place and sent me off to x-rays. Nothing was broke. All in all I went for my first MRI last night, good news is that my ACL is still intact, bad news is the meniscus is tore all the way thru and they cant tell if my MCL and PCL are still good. The ACL held together but is stretched out really bad, and will most likely need repair. The next problem is that I burst a pretty good size blood vessel in my leg that keeps filling my knee with blood and causing great discomfort. I have to go in every so often where they probe it with needles and drain it out to ease the discomfort. The Docs are unsure where to go with it until they fix the leaky blood issue. For more bad new I have my leg in brace straight out and on crutches. It will remain like for the next couple of weeks while they run too many tests. After that comes repair and healing. Looks like I could be out for at least month and then limited movement at that. I can only fit in the back seat of a car because of my brace. Doctors says I wont be driving anytime soon (right knee) and can probably kiss competitive sports good bye. This is a huge bummer and has me quite down and out. Keep saying those prayers and keep your fingers crossed. Looks like I am going to be side lined for a good amout of this year on cars and can only ride back seat and shot gun.
Good luck to all with projects, drag and auto-xing.

I'm really sorry to hear that..... It's shitty when just having fun and landing the wrong way can put you out that like and ruin so much. Good luck and I hope it's a quick recovery.

Man, that really sucks. And at such a young age too. Well, I'll keep my fingers crossed for a quick recovery. Just remember to take your time and let it heal fully. Don't rush it b/c if you injure it again, it's be even worse.

Very important! I messed up most of the muscles in my shoulder a few winters ago and didn't do as the doctor said and I was back in physical therapy for over twice as long as I was supposed to be.

good luck with the recovery. and like mentioned, don't rush the healing process! not at your age. take the summer off, let it heal good, strength train the hell outta it next year, and you'll be playing ball again in a year or so...
enjoy the drugs while you can, and i hope the pain subsides soon after!

Join the club adam!
I've dislocated my knee 7 times total from 5th grade to 7th grade. I know the pain you were in, the passing out thing is also true, its hurts that damn bad. My problem was genetic though, my big tendon that attaches the knee cap to your "shin" wasn't attached straight down, but was attached to the side, causing my knee cap to roll over if i landed on it straight. Also, have fun in rehab, you'll be amazed how much muscle you loose in that leg after surgery and everything. I couldn't even lift my leg straight up(laying down) without any way, it was weird. If you want any advice just as, i had Dr. Riordan in point, hes one hell of a surgeon and doctor. Also, and i did lose alot of speed, but its been about 6 years since my surgery, and i'm finally back to running as fast as I should be. Couple things I can't do, like get into a goalie stance(hockey) or do hurdles, but everything else i'm ok for doing.

If you need to go in for an operation, be very careful who you pick, especially if you go here in Point. My mom had to have her shoulder reconstructed after a bike accident and the person she went to really screwed it up. She ended up going to the Mayo clinic a year later to have the whole thing re-done again. Turned out the original person who did the operation (or one of the assistants) hadn't properly sterilized the piece they were putting in and it got severely infected. If the pain finally hadn't become unbearable (forcing her to seek another doctor) the Mayo guy said she may have eventually lost her arm, that's how bad the infection could have become. If you want to know who she went to, Adam, PM me and I'll let you know and give you more details if you're interested.

My father tore his ACL, and I think he's seeing Riordan (just like Pointdsm). My dad isn't a fan of any doctor, but I'm fairly sure he likes Riordan.
Barubabe's right, though, research the people who are helping you, and good luck with recovery. You'll pull through.
Best wishes.

Dr. Riordan did my broken wrist, no surgery though. Went to school with his son k-12 so I know him very well. I am seeing a dude in milwaukee right now not to impressed but I want to see what he says
