View Full Version : Windows 7 Upgrade Issue

I just finished throwing Windows 7 (64 bit) on my Gateway NV52 laptop and the internet went to shit. It's the computer, not the router, the PS3 and other computers still work fine. The compatibility tester says everything is working fine, but obviously something isn't. I tried a few things that the Microsoft troubleshooting forums suggested, but it's still not working. The internet comes and goes, but it's mostly worthless and any downloads or normal webpage surfing is out of the question. Any ideas?

if your connecting via wireless, windows vista & 7 have problems connecting to older wireless encryptions.
if your wireless router is a few years old, upgrade its firmware. then setup your wireless security to run in WPA2 Personal TKIP+AES.

I got it figured out. Narrowed it down to 2 Microsoft services that supposedly don't get along together after the upgrade. Stuff that has to do with network discovery... I don't really know, but I disabled them, uninstalled Java, ran Windows update, reinstalled Java, enabled the network stuff and then it works again. I basically took advice from 3 different people at school and did them all at once. Problem solved. Thanks guys.

I usually wouldn't have given it a second thought, but it was completely free, so I decided to go for it. I'm not too good with computers, but so far 7 feels like Vista with a different start menu bar at the bottom. Haha.

change your shit back to classic view. not sure how anyone can get work done with all those colors fading in and out.
Windows 7 works much smoother then vista. Vista UAC is crap compared to windwos7. thats the first thing i noticed.

I run XP on my Mac! works great. I've been using it for my Information Security class but I think next semester for my Programming class I'm going to take XP off and run 7.

windows 7 sucks compared when I used vista. It wouldn't find a software for my printer, so I would have to install from a cd-rom. Didn't have to do that with vista. With the Command Prompt, I couldn't get the editor up with windows 7...vista I can. I don't see how 7 is any better than vista.

BSOD today with 7 32 bit pro! I think this is a new world record.
Personally hate 7 so far. Seems no better than Vista.

7 has been optimized to be easier on system resources and uses the base code from server 2008 so it runs faster on the same hardware. So as always, new product, new issues. UAC in 7 has been tweaked to be less intrusive, but at the same time, its also much less secure. I personally hate UAC because it gives the average Joe a false sense of security.

I just don't know how you guys can have so many problems. I can't remember the last time I've even seen a BSOD. Windows 7 is pretty much Vista with less UAC activity. Turn that shit off in Vista and its just a better performing XP.

I've seen a BSOD on 7 on a brand new machine, like 2 days old.
Completely caused by Symantec Endpoint Protection. Which is what my company uses, unfortunately. On a good note, the BSOD was on the Top Dog Network Administrator's machine, not my own. lol!
Only other time I see it is when a 5-6 year-old machine is at the end of its life and all sorts of hardware problems (usually hard drive and/or RAM) start occuring.
