Looking at upgrading and would like some behind the scenes info on a couple phones for the wife... anything good or bad... problems...

LG Rhythm

LG Banter

Samsung Freeform

We won't be going to smart phones so those are out. She doesn't want a flip either so this is what's left that she likes.

I will never buy anything with a slider again. They are very susceptible to breaking. Samsung makes good phones. What do you consider a "smart phone"? Theyre all pretty smart nowadays

Nothing that needs a smart phone plan...ie: blackberry, HTC, MotoQ

LG makes some pretty decent phone from my experiences with them. I've dropped, thrown, beat the crap out tof them and they usually last. I am not a fan of sliders either, that's just personal preference. This time though I decided to switch it up and try out Samsung. Its going pretty well so far and I like it. I got an Alias 2 though which is a flip phone, so yeah. Basically, just go with she likes the most. Put insurance on it so if it breaks or something out can get a new one.

Also, You know that if you upgrade, I am pretty sure that you have to switch to Verizon.

I wish I could switch to Verizon. Their phone selection is way better than alltel. I could switch but I would have to change my number and that is a big headache. Something about the owners of the towers in this area haven't signed a contract with verizon yet so I can't keep my same # because of my location.

I plan on insurance on her phone.

Thanks for your input.

Its because of Verizon buying and merging with Alltel.

Verizon will only port a number thats local to your billing address, and if they own the tower(s) in your area. Soon enough you'll be able to.

I'd say Rythum personally. if you text alot go for the Banter.. I don't know much about the freeform but it is a Samsung and they make good shit!

Best option, Sign up at Verizon. You'll have to get new numbers but they have much better phones! You're gonne be their customer soon enough so why get with a crappy Alltel phone.

The rythem is the fucking worst phone ever made. My first rythem within six months the click wheel did not work, the speakers blew, all the chrome came off, and sliders suck. Two weeks ago i got a warranty replacement rythem and the fucking wheel already does not work and the fucking speakers are so quiet i have to have it on speaker phone to even hear anyone.

Well, at the moment I have a Blackberry Pearl (Alltel) and a Samsung Alias2 (Verizon) both work flowlessly.. I know Samsung Hues are junk.. originals were good but the news ones suck. Only LG I trust is the Banter, but style I like the Rythum. If your looking for a new Alltel phone get the Blackberry Tour! Awesome phone!

-Or-

Switch to Verizon and get the Blackberry Storm 2 or the Motorola Droid if you dig touch screen.. otherwise I suggest the Samsung Alias 2 I get alot of comments on it.

only advice I have is to invest in a better battery. And get an sd card, the phone has very limited internal memory, you cant take vids without it and can only take around 10 pics.

USCC,... free battery swap whenever you want.

someone HAS to be losing money on that deal

You'd be surprised, they aren’t losing as much as they probably were before. Before battery swap, we’d warranty batteries all the time. This is soo much easier, plus batteries have HUGE markups. People think batteries cost $30-50, when really my cost on OEM ones are in the $4-8 range. Plus USCC takes the older batteries, and will “refurbish” them and put them back out in the battery swap program.

Is there a limit to how many swaps a customer can do in a year? Isnt the battery swap program essentially an easier method of doing a warranty exchange? Either way the customer brings in a bad battery and in turn gets a refurb.

yes. they told us "4 per month per customer" but no one is really counting.
