So I recently Sold my CRX and I am looking to scoop up another car for before winter starts becuase they are cheap right now. The problem is I have NO idea what I want. I am looking for some ideas. I am open to anything really. However my budget is limited to around 5,000$. I want a car I can daily in the summer, take to a few events and have fun with, and just be fun overall.
The only thing I can really think of right now is buying a miata.
I want to try and stay away from hondas and FWD cars in general for awhile. I figured that most of you guys have driven way more cars than me so....anyone have some ideas.

Subaru 2.5rs is the perfect car for that price range.

the 240sx is a fun rear drive car along with the ae86 a few older muscle cars and old body style rx7

I feel the 240sx is a bit overdone in my opinion, and just not for me. Awsome car, just not my style.
The AE86 is Super Super expensive to modify, maybe I would still look into one.
And the RX7 is a possible Idea, Bad MPG's though. I would like to find an FB chassis GSL-SE model with the fuel injected 13b, all wheel disks, and factory LSD.

3-series BMW. I bought my 325is for under 2k. Sure it has 170k, but runs great with proper care.

If you go with an RS, just try to stay away from the 98's, unless they have paperwork of the headgaskets being replaced. Major issues with those motors which I am find out the hard way right now!

Was this MR2 turbocharged?
Anyone ever drive a porsche 944? Turbo model? Know anything about them?
Story time...
Today I made a road trip 6.5 hours each way from Oshkosh WI to Mason City Iowa and back. Sooo I already went against my " No Honda/FWD" Idea. It was one of those to good to be true deals on a 1988 CRX HF. Looked Rust free, clean paint, clean title, semi low mileage.....*cough*314WHP*cough*. Price dropped from 5,000$ to 2,500$ he Needed to sell the car within next few days to pay for a "school loan". Whatever. I am the first guy to be able to come with cash in hand the next day, so he reserves the car for me. I get there and Long story short....It had some major issues.
Caked on bondo on both quarter panels. ranging in thickness from 1 to 2 inches.(major point of the ad was saying this car was 100% rust free)
Entire Engine Bay coated in Oil. First He said it was only a valve cover gasket. Then he said it was Valve cover breathers, that should go to a catch can but he didnt have one.
So then I look inside and the car is 3 different colors. Just trashy interior.
Nick B(black Focus) Came with me and he noticed that in the hatch of the car where the spare tire should go was all crunched in, it had a new rear bumper support, and the owner said they cut out a patch of the roof due to rust. All of these things pointed to a pretty hard rear end collision. Guy denied everything.
I go for a ride in the car with the owner driving on its 110 octane tune. We make it about 2 miles and I watch the temp gauge start to creep up, He said that gauge was broken if you hit the dash it will work. We rips through some gears, no traction at all. 1st all the way through 4th. It was overkill and did not appeal to me. Maybe I could turn the boost down.
I attempt to rig up the car so I can test drive it, thinking it should only take a few seconds bolting down my pedals seeing they were still set in my old CRX's specs. Of course for some reason they do not even get close to fitting this car. Takes me almost 30 mins to get them almost on. I am almost done when Nick yells from under the car saying that he is finding little holes all over the back over the car, they go straight into the car and are about the size of a finger. That was it, screw this guy who I specificly asked " will this car make it back to WI". No way in hell it would have made it back, even if it did I wouldnt have made it back because the car is so damn loud that I would have went insane and killed myself after 2 hours.
I just wanted an Uber Clean 88 CRX HF. Screw the turbo shit. I just wanted a 100% rust free car like the guy advertised, a car that was going to make the 5.5 hour drive back no problem. I just needed to rant super long day of just bullshit.
Refrence Picture. Looked super clean to me. Damn bondo.

Having driven a Miata I would recommend one. They fit exactly what you are looking for; smaller, light weight, 5-speed, DD, reliable, cheap. They are pretty darn fun to drive! They do however have horrible cabin/road noise because it's just sheetmetal between your seat and the rear wheel wells.

Id stick to the miata instead of that mustang. Stock n/a v8 mustangs are slow as shit! Ive beaten up on a stock V8 Stang with my little 180hp TT...granted he was an auto, but still...no balls unless you build it up. Even the new ones are weak sauce. Jarred and I test drove a stock '06 V8 Mustang..crap! No power band at all. The only mustang worth buying is a supercharged mustang!
For what you want in a car, the Miata will fit the bill a whole lot better than any slow heavy stang ever will!
...no offence to any Mustang owners on here ;)

Mr. Fuji has the right Idea. '00 and '01 RSs have limited slip rear diffs, so I prefer them over a '99 or '98. The DOHC '98 models were known to have HG issues, but they've straightened them out with an updated headgasket design which I have had no issues with so far in any of the cars I've installed them in. It is not that hard to do to change one in those cars. Finding one in decent shape for under 5k will be a bit of a challenge, but it can be done. look for rust around the wheel well on the rear fenders.
A miata would be fun. I have a 2.5RS, and am looking at getting a cheap miata myself to do some modding to and beat the crap out of.
Either one of those cars would be cool.

i bought my last 3 expensive cars from dealers... and got better pricing on 2 of them. the lexus i didn't but i was stupid and really wanted the car!! so i paid what he was asking becuase i couldn't find exactly what i wanted anywhere else! i tried like hell, but he wouldn't budge. and after looking for 3-4 months for that exact list of options, i swallowed my pride and bought the car anyways. owell, i loved that car!
but yes, you can wheel and deal with dealers just the same. but like TK said, look them straight in the eye and show you're not intimidated by them. you might need to stand on a chair or two to do that, but it'll be worth it! :-)

The 2.5 rs is a much more badass car, but asuming I could go get it for 5500 that is still 2000$ more than I am most likely going to pay for the miata.
Yes the miata has some identity issues, but I can fix that with some suspension components, a low offset wheel, and a smoking hot bitch sitting in the passenger seat at all times.
I cannot fit in a DSM the seats are to low and the dash is to high.

Off topic kinda but I am supposed to mention on this forum that the red waupaca SRT is going to be out for action hard next year. Also wanted me to mention how that car is one stage 3 with toys or some shit whatever that means, with the stock clutch from factory.
Stage 3 on a stock clutch?? Good luck.

nick was at S3 i think. hmmm....
anyways, i bet you could get that 2.5RS for under $6k for sure.
i like the 2.5 better than the miata anyways, more car, less miles, more "straight" factor.
Yes sir.. Stage 3 with toys, and supporting mods and extra bolt ons. While a S3 SRT 4 is no laughing matter, it won't hold up well on the stock clutch at those kind of power levels, mine lasted 1500 miles after I went to Stage 3.
Speaking of Stage 3 SRT 4's. My old car is going to be stage 3 again also, new owners just purchased a stage 3 kit. Should be interesting.

Yeah, I guess thats a bad thing. That red car has always been stage 3, he is just saying that it has been on the factory stock clutch, but now after getting it changed it will be a different car. He will be willing to race this next season.

Thanks for listing that, but not for me. Trying to stray away from Hondas and FWD in general. That ad looks like something Dan Delong would write. "Small Oil leak" when there really is a whole in the block. LOL.
Anywho...I want a car, more offers or ideas?
Don't buy a subi, I hear they have problems when you drive on dirt roads or threw puddles.

+1 for Subi failing at what it was supposed to be built for...
Moral of story... WRX/EVO, are NOT rally cars, just awd family cars.
Buy an old limo and hire a homeless guy to drive it!
Does not fair well off pavement.

That VW is not my style at all. I had a jetta with the 2.0 8v. Very slow car. Even if it was supercharged it would still be slow.
Here was my jetta. Needless to say I do not have it anymore.

What got into your head that your talking crap about me. You sold your overpriced pos now buy something else. Tic Toc winters comin

First off I’m not “talking crap” I am simply stating facts. You tried selling a 1988 - 1991 Honda Prelude with an obvious hole in the block saying that it had an oil leak and you didn’t know whats was wrong with it. I saw the ad, no need to get fussy about the facts.
If you consider my car overpriced that’s your opinion and I am fine with that. The car DID sell and I got what I was asking for it, so I think I must have done something right. Also If you consider my CRX a POS that’s fine, I’ll let you know that I consider my CRX a far nicer car than anything I have ever seen you drive. Everyone is entitled to a opinion and that’s mine.
I'll see you in the desert next month. Be ready to have your ass handed to you……

You have to beat the CRX before you can step up to the EVO.

I really wish I could have re-raced your CRX before I sold mine, it went a long way since I had raced you the first week I had it. I think it would have been a much closer race, but I guess we will never know.
All I have to say is to have the EVO waiting after the CRX race. :)
And JDM EK wannabe, We will match up sometime.
I wish I could afford to drive the car right now and have it registerd, but I can't I am very poor. Plus the car right now is not fast at all, my old CRX was much quicker. The Galant needs a bit of love before it can be fun and somewhat realiable. I could throw a boost controller on the car and say screw it, but I want to make it reliable before being fast.....Yes I know sounds impossible but I am going to attempt it.
