View Full Version : Should I leave G-stock for ST?

Hey, just wondering what everyone thinks. I run Azenis ST115's on the Impreza RS, and don't have R-comps. I have a WRX sway bar to put on sitting at home, and would like to get some headers for it soon. So should I wait to put that stuff on and keep having fun in the stock class, or get serious in ST?
By the way, who else here runs in ST?

Stock stock stock. Ha ha. You will be faster with better tires than putting that other unreliable stuff on the car.
The headers would only shave nanoseconds off your time, I'd save the money for replacing the tires. With its relatively light weight, short gearing, and good sized engine, the RS should be competitive with R-comps and that WRX sway bar. Otherwise, just put on the sway bar and chances are nobody will notice. ;)

I say don't let the autoX classes dictate how you want to build the car. Build it how you want it built, and worry about the class later. Sure, it might not be competitive in the class. That's why you always keep modifying the loose nut behind the wheel.
Unless the SOLE purpose of the car is for autocross, and to win trophies, in which case you build it to the max that whatever class you want to compete in can handle.

I'm in the same boat.. I'm thinking of not doing cams since it's going to bump me into SM again. I don't auto x to win but at the same time.. it would be nice to have the closer matched cars in my class unlike street mod.

Yep. Thats the other reason I am thinking of switching. .818 in ST vs .821 in GS.

How does a shift knob or peddles bump you out of stock class?

Yeah, the whole R-compound in a stock class is BS in my book. Instant 2-seconds off of your times. No frickin' Pedal or shift knob is going to do that.

In that case, if you changed your oil then your not stock.

So I think I'll try ST next time. Just ordered a set of headers to see how my car sounds.

Nope. Ordered unequal length. Was more interested in sound than power gains.
