I was checking over my car before the marshfield event, and when I checked my brake fluid I noticed it was a greenish black color instead of being clear. I had flushed the brake fluid last year when I put on new pads and rotors. Is that a sign of boiled brake fluid or is there something else happening.

I just did a complete front and rear brake job on a 2001 Ranger, and the fluid was greenish black, but all the brake parts and fluid was original with 104,000 miles... I don't have a good answer as to why yours is like that after only a year. I doubt it boiled, because the boiling point of any decent fluid is around 500+ degrees!

thats just brake fluids natural happenings going on. As the fluid oxidizes, it goes greenish, then looks like coffee after a couple years. Most manufacturers recommend a brake fluid flush every two years regardless of make. brake fluid is really brake fluid, and unless you race professionally or hot lap/time attack. so no worries, its just normal.

Brake fluid gets dirty. Especially if you are beating on the car.

Flush it again.

Even flushing that stuff remains on the walls of the resivior, lines, prop. valve, abs units, etc. I normally wipe out whatever I can in the resivior and flush a few times if it was real dirty. It sometimes takes a few flush's at different times to get it mostly out. Like say, flush your brakes when you change your oil for 3 oil changes. Maybe more if it was real dirty.
