so lately my compaq has been overheating or it thins it is, runs the fan almost constantly, and even completely shuts down in like 15 minutes or less sometimes. I had a IT froend run program a while ago and it stopped but just for couple months, is there anything i can do or run that can fix this crap?

are you blocking any vents?

have you opened up and used electronic compressed air to clean out fan and cpu. the only other thing i can think off is the thermo protection settings maybe wrong

Pop off the keyboard and remove the heat sink from the main CPU. Add some thermo-paste and reseat the heatsink... make sure it refastens on there tightly. This is a common issue with Compaq notebooks a few years back.
It'll be fine. Paypal me $25 for telling you this. Thanks. :)

My computer was doing that too. Dizmm told me to blow out the vents on the bottom of the computer.
It works like a champ now.

Put it in the freezer to cool it down, and if that doesn't work, put it in the microwave!

do you smoke a lot, or use the laptop in a garage, or a place where dust/hair/debris can get into things? Keep that in mind for future preventative maintenance..

Drill some holes in it for ventilation...j/k It definitely sounds like the thermal paste is needing attention and also clearing away debris inside to allow optimal venting.

Bring that notebook to TT ... we can take a look. Maybe it has a fan that failed or something. That is not uncommon.
