I Had a chance to drive a GTI with a DSG garbox. It was awsome! I can see why its offered in the new EVO. There is no torque converter so it has a nice stronge pull as you accelerate from a stop. None of that "fluid" feel of a Tourqe converter. It is NOT an Automatic Trans. It uses a electronic clutch thats run by the ECU. It has two input shafts. (One inside the other) and two clutch Discs, one for each input shaft. It shifts in like 3 tenths of a second and has 6 forward gears. If you ever get a chance to try one, go for it. From someone who HATES automatic trannys, I would by a car with a DSG Gearbox, Its a ball to drive! Works great with a turbo as you will not loose boost when you shift. (no need to lift of throttle, ECU doesnt retard timing or cut fuel injection when upshifting) It also has Launch Control.
