i need your guys & gals opinions... here's the deal...

Currently i only stock GOOD tint. 2ply, metallic films, in 20%, 35%, and 50%. pretty much what that is is this... 2ply is better than 1ply, it's a little thicker and a little more scratch/abrasion resistant. the Metallic film is made with actual metal in it, it blocks out a little more of the heat/uv, and doesn't fade either. it's slightly more reflective by nature, as its made with actual metals in it.

the 1ply Dyed films are the ones that turn purple in a year or two... The coloring in the film comes from a dye, which after time being exposed to UV rays, will eventually fade, and usually turns a purplish color. yes, there are guys in town use this stuff. however, it's also cheaper by a little bit, so they usually beat my pricing when offerering this film. However, those that know me, know i fully believe in "you get what you pay for".

Now, my supplier carries a higher end brand of the Dyed stuff, and it's even 2ply. it shouldn't turn purple so i'm told... but I can not guarantee anything with it as far as fading goes. it is, afterall, a dyed film.

here's the question... Should i carry a limited stock of the 2ply dyed films??? i can only think of 2 reasons to do so... 1: i can compete on price if someone is only price shopping tint. Even though i explain the difference to my customers/callers, some don't give a shit and still only hear dollar bills. and... 2: Stevens Point has it's share of cheap bastards. nuff said.

any opinions on this? i'd greatly appreciate your thoughts as a consumer on this subject... would it be nice to have a choice? or should i just keep educating my customers on the advantages of metallic films, and let them decide if it's worth it or not? Please click your thoughts, you can click more than one.

Thanks everyone!!!

My opinion... I know the difference between dyed and metallic and would only use metallic on my vehicles... if I ever tinted one of my vehicles, that is.

I also believe in the "you get what you pay for" attitude. I personally would carry the cheap tint in small quantities. It may ruin your reputation however if the tint turns to crap. I have recommended you, and brought you business before and continue to do it. By far the best work in the area.

Thanks for reminding me that I need to get tint done this summer!

If I were you I would keep a very limited supply and it would come with a disclamer of some sort. Word of mouth will either really help a guy or kill him.

Get people in the door with the competative pricing and then do the ol' "I can do it for this lower price BUT..." like every business does with their products/services.

You need to have both on hand to compete same reason bestbuy carries jvc, kenwood, and pioneer because in a lot of ways they can compete especially the $$ one if you want to be a real go-getter make a small brochure explaining the differences give it to each of your customers explain you offer both should do the trick , we run into similar circumstances with our work all the time. If we can repair it for cheaper even if it only will look 90% of replacement qaulity then we get the job ,
Its going to make you extra money just make sure you cover your arse and explain everything .

My thoughts exactly... i think i'll carry limited quantities, to compete on price and get them here, then i can explain the difference, and hopefully move them up to the good stuff.

ALSO... what radio stations do you guys listen to? we're thinking of running some radio ads, and my first options are 103.3 WGLX, 106.5 WYTE, and 107.9 Big Cheese (well, 96.7 LITE-FM is there also)

anyone listen to those channels?

WIFC is stupid expensive to advertise on, so don't bother suggesting that one.

Make a little billboard thingy that shows the differences and hang it up in the office so you can show people what happens when they go cheap.

yeah, but i'm looking more to advertise now... i don't really have 2-3 years to wait for a sample to turn purple! ha

Go to a junk yard and scrape some old stuff off a car. Or buy the whole door glass.

Cut me super deal on my tint job now and I'll let you take a faded purple sample off my EVO windows :)

I also agree, having both tints would be ideal. Some people don't keep cars for more than a year or 2 so they don't give a rats arse if the tint fades. And some people garage their cars so the cheap tint will last a life time. I would sell the cheap stuff with no warranty and of course offer a warranty on the good stuff. That alone will show a reason to pay now or 10 times later.

We have an weathering accelerater at work that gives off UV rays like a mofo to age our parts quickly, I should toss some tint in there. :)

Or you can lay in there for 15 seconds and get a tan/cancer.

Also have one for corrosion if you want to rust something to pieces in a day.
