statefarm
clean driving record
I pay like 115/month for full coverage on my 08 Si and liability on my hatch, during the summer I add liability on the del sol and that adds like 15-20 dollars to the per month price

I know they suck, but i have progressive. Its usually the cheapest for the young driver with a poor driving record.

Hopefully it stays perfect because if you get in an accident or get asked for proof of insurance you're in trouble. That is illegal in Wisconsin/Minnisota/Illinois.

Minimum required is Uninsured Motorist Bodily Injury which is like 4 cents a month.

Why does progressive suck? I switched recently and have a way smaller bill/mo than statefarm for the same coverage.

From Wisconsin state government website for Commissioner of Insurance:

"Wisconsin has a financial responsibility law.

The law also requires uninsured motorist coverage of $25,000/$50,000 for bodily injury liability coverage only" which is on top of the "Wisconsin Financial Responsibility Law" which covers the requirement of coverage of:

"$25,000 for injury or death of one person;
$50,000 for injury or death of two or more people; and
$10,000 for property damage."

http://oci.wi.gov/faq/auto.htm#finresp

Does that make sense?

TheSolMan
03-20-2009, 09:20 AM
the financial responsibility law does not require you to carry any insurance whatsoever it only states that if you do not have insurance and you get in an accident you have to be able to show that you can afford to pay for the damages at a minimum requirement whether it's from your own account or some type of bond

It is designed to make sure that any motorist licensed to drive in Wisconsin has insurance or enough money to pay for damages to others that may be caused by a motor vehicle. These requirements may be met through a motor vehicle liability insurance policy, a surety bond, personal funds, or certificate of self-insurance

the state of wisconsin does not legally require you to have insurance on your car

If you do want to purchase a policy for your car the limits that you posted above are simply the minimum limits that you must have for uninsured motorist coverage

source: http://oci.wi.gov/faq/auto.htm#finresp

We spent a good amount of time on this law in my Motor Vehicle Law class in the police recruit academy

Ah, so the law required you just need enough money in the bank to pay for the "$50,000" car you may total... or have insurance if you don't have that money. :D VPT must be freakin loaded.

I definitely agree that it is rather stupid to not have insurance, I was simply saying that there is no requirement for it in Wisconsin...I think it should be required though, I've heard too many bad stories about people being screwed by uninsured motorists and would be pretty devistated if it happened to me

Yes, they are cheaper, but wait til you have to file a claim.

Also, VPT, don’t travel outside of Wisconsin, most states require proof of insurance. You get pulled over for anything, and you don’t have that insurance card, you may not be coming home so soon. Karma always catches up. If you knew anything about gambling, you should quit now while you’re ahead and get insurance.

Kyle try giving these people a call.. my insurance is normally freaking crazy crazy high for most places, but I've been with these people for the past 6 years because they are not as strict.

Only if you are from that state. I have been pulled over plenty out of state, no problems.

Pay attention where you are driving and don't hit anyone, it is simple.

It has happened to my family a few times and nothing ever comes from it and the people are never held liable. That is one of the reasons I say fuck it and go without insurance as well. No one can do anything to you even if you don't have insurance. To hell with getting bent over by insurance companies.

Plus how will I lose everything I have? I have yet to see anyone lose all they have because of something like this.

that's exactly the problem with uninsured motorists--they're never held accountable--this is why it would be best to just have it required

and you'll lose everything you have cause I'll come and take it--I'll probably have most of it up on ht marketplace though so if you want to buy it back you can

I have American Family and my agent is John E Crawley out of Mosinee. AmFam was willing to insure me with two speeding tickets, a racing ticket, and a high performance vehicle. Their rates are lower than Sentry's even with the employee discount.

I did leave Amfam for 6 months. We had a friend that was independent insurance agent. I had him quote us and found lower rates so we left AmFam for 6 months. What a fucking mistake that was. The service was horrible, when calling you always got voice mail or some fucking machine, the modifications I would ask for never happened when they were supposed to, and they tried to change (jack up) rates at renewal.

I went crawling back to AmFam and the change was so damn refreshing. Call the number get a person who actually knows who you are without an account number! Very courteous and friendly. Not only that but they overlooked that I left and gave me a 20% discount for being a 5 year claim free customer.

It's worth paying more for something good. At least I know they will be there if I need them.

We have State Farm (home and car). Pete Taggatz. He's a nice guy, but the typical insurance guy. His assistants are usually the ones I deal with, but if I ever have a question or a problem, he deals with it himself, right away. They have decent rates, and we've never had a problem when switching coverage on the hubby's Cavy from full to storage during the winter months.

I had AmFam years ago and they dropped me for one speeding ticket (granted, it was 77 in a 55, but still!!!). I was quite disgusted with that. They "allowed" me to get into their high risk category, and the price was sky high. No thank you. Left that after about 6 months and went to Progressive, then to State Farm where I've been for the last x number of years.

My bro-in-law went with some "fly by night" insurance co. b/c of the cheaper rates and got TERRIBLE service (akin to what Evil was talking about). But hey! He saved money...

I too have amfam for car insurance, about year and half ago i got a speeding for 72 in a 45 and i still haven't noticed an increase in premium (knock on wood) and a claim for a hit and run.

We used to have amfam but they were really going to screw me over when I got the busa and statefarm did everything they could to get me the lowest possible price on the bike and the cars combined--I've always had great service with them as well

I was hit twice by uninsured motorists. Both times they paid for the car and one time I had to take some actions of my own to get my money. Trust me, if someone hits you and does damage to your car, there are Many ways to get your money!

If someone hits me and doesn't pay to fix it, they will Pay anyways. If I am hurt by an uninsured, they better hope I die.

its amazing how one ticket they will jack up your insurance $700 more per year.. thats ONLY with liability for my mother and I driving her vehicle right now since mine have been parked for winter and no insurance on them..
add on another $300 to that when i re-insure my conquest. what bullshit..
ill be paying like $1600 a year for liability on one vehicle thats a crock lol

i have Sentry Ins Middlesex division. i love dealing with my agent. she knows my voice when i call from how many times i switch things over. never any issues. she'll even backdate things if i sold a car and forgot to cancel insurance for it! ha. she rocks. i check pricing about every 2yrs or so, and she's always within a few dollars, so i don't bother changing companies to save $10 bucks.

they've got my cars, and home insurance.

Dont forget that most insurance companies look at your credit score now.

My kid just turned 16 and my insurance went from $50 a month to $150....overnight

^ That is a good point. Also even if you don't own a home you can get renters insurance. Then use the home/auto discount. It will pay for itself.

I also highly suggest a 1 Million dollar umbrella policy. They don't cost much especially because you can drop your car coverage to the bare minimum. Mine costs about $45 year after the car coverage reduction.
