So I watched this:

Should I go from 4 doors to zero?

Funny you should post that... I was just talkin about that car with someone a few days ago.... I'd take one and call it my winter beater, see how you guys like that one.

TomKat
01-28-2007, 12:49 AM
You'd be mighty cold.

TSi_II
01-28-2007, 12:51 AM
Yeah.... WI winter beaters should at least have SOME rules, like doors, windows.... Next season we might have to get serious about this winter beater shit, stock class and modified class.

EVILUTION
01-28-2007, 12:57 AM
You know these are available in the US now right?

TomKat
01-28-2007, 01:09 AM
Yeah VPT has one in his garage.

OK Tsi II you draft up a set of rules. Then post them and we can debate.

TSi_II
01-28-2007, 09:59 AM
Alright let's see....
Stock(ish) class: This one is pretty simple, maybe exhaust and an air filter or something. Could throw in a few simple bolt ons, full interior, yadda yadda.
Modified: Any motor swaps, a little farther on the bolt ons(NO2), or any internal engine mods.
Dizmm class: This invovles debatable winter beaters: big turbo, fuel control, stroker motors, etc.

TomKat
01-28-2007, 10:41 AM
Guy. Winter beater is a class all by itself. We're not doing winter beater classes. You need to draft up rules to qualify as a winter beater not classes. 8)

Maybe Devlish can help out.

Dizmm, (Old Account)
01-28-2007, 11:43 AM
how about just two classes, otherwise there wont be enough people for each class:

Basic Class: any FWD/RWD non-modded other than exhaust and air filter.
Advanced Class: AWD modded, sky's the limit.

these aren't really winter beaters anyways.

i'm not sure anyone on here besides TK, Evil, Helby, Tski, and myself will remember the good ole days of REAL winter beater racing!! where the slowest car was really the winner, but you still had to try your hardest and hold your foot to the floor no matter what, no sandbagging allowed. hell, i was a finalist once upon a time. "THING" squared off against the CADDY, and the caddy was soooo slow i actually finished the race, turned around, and was on my way back before he crossed the finish line!!! and he was actually going as fast as that big caddy would let him. now THOSE were winter beaters.

i realize this new generation of racers have much more advanced winter beaters, but still, they're not really beaters. this is just more of "winter racing". no actual beaters show up. i'd challenge Dizmm to take that "beater" of his through ANY of the obstacles that Caddy or Omni went through. no way would it go through wooded bicycles trails, over back porches of apartment buildings, dead-center through small 3"-4" trees, over both curbs directly onto mainstreet, through volleyball pits, over cement barriers, through 3ft high snowbanks with people riding on the hood and roof!!! sure, it may physically make it through most of that, but there would be some serious afterthought of what it may look like when it's over. however, the caddy and omni did all of that and thensome, and noone cared what it looked like before or afterwards. it was a real beater.

and that is the definition of a BEATER!!! not something you beat on by driving hard, but something you can REALLY BEAT ON!!! both driving and asthetics!!! and not care what it looks like afterwards!!

TSi_II

Agreed. ^

Thank TSi_II for seeing my point. i guess we'll just have to change the name of the races from now on.

This thread was about the ATOM not winter racing you fuck bags. I'm seriously thinking about ditching the EVO and getting an ATOM. The use version is different than the jspec one but its still available with a 300HP motor and big brake kit. For a price its even available in carbon fiber.

TomKat
01-28-2007, 10:43 PM
Have fun driving that thing around in the winter.

Seriously though. How much do they cost???

devlish

i checked out their webpage... and it appeared you needed to email them for build info & pricing. when you get that info back evil, let us know. those things are cool.

Although the video says the engine is a Honda, the US version is an 2.0
liter Ecotec. HP ranges from 140 to 300 depending on the engine option
selected.

There's a bit of a waiting list and it's a small factory so there is some wait time.

Here's a review with more detail on the car:

EVILUTION

Look at it this way.... they hold their value so its not $38k down the tubes. They have better 0-100mph than an enzo. They would own any street legal car that I've ever seen at an autocross.

The down side is they are a fair weather vehicle that would get more negative attention than a four door with a park bench on the back. But Tomkat doesn't drive his car in rain, snow, or on long trips anyway.

The Type R has been through a lot including long trips. Well if you count a trip to South Haven, MI a long trip.

-She's been through 6 inches of snow (and it didn't do all that bad).

-Driven through the worst rain storm I've ever experienced while driving a car. I was seriously afraid that the road was going to wash out and with the bald Victorers on the fastest I could go was 50 mph. That was fun. :D

I've been giving this Atom idea some thought. I came to the conclusion for a car like that I'd rather have an open wheel formula type car where you sit in the middle of it. Sure it would be a track only car, but it would kick more ass than the Atom. This is of course if I had an extra $40k laying around because I wouldn't sell any of my current rides for such an endeavor.

I've always wondered this tom, why have so many cars? You could sell the insight, what good is that really doing for you(you usually take a different car on long trips anyways). The grand am, while it is a cool factory turbo car, is it really necessary? The type R, vette, and truck are the obvious ones though. I guess the 240 is your winter beater, so you have 2 summer cars and for what you do, makes complete sense.

Insight - Made a deal with my Mom that I'd keep that car. Besides I love that car and it sure came in handy last summer with the high gas prices.

Type R - Want to sell. Time to move on. What a headache this is going to be. If I had extra cash I'd keep it, but I don't.

Zoey - Wanted a faster car so I bought a faster car. Best feature of Zoey is that it stopped the "Why don't you bring the Type R out" questions.

Rattle - Would consider selling this, but it's worthless. I've invested about $3,000 in modifications so it wouldn't be worth selling. So I guess it's my wheel to wheel race car in the works.

Zoeyhauler - Pulls the trailer and hauls leaves to Bukolt.

Grand Am - My sister bought this car brand new. Would like to sell this car, but it's also worthless. If I could get $1,500 from it's sale I'd rather just keep it for that little bit of money. It doesn't cost me hardly anything to keep it. As per Evil's suggestion I posted it on a Grand Am website for sale. Got zero responce. Selling cars is very difficult.

Dee I - This car is going down in my book as almost as good a beater as my Chevette. It's awesome in the snow, but at the start of Council's high speed autocross (summer) season I decided to run her in D Stock. Turns out Dee handles the high speed tracks like a thoroughbred. Set a DS track record and Milwaukee Mile (it's since been broken by a Miata) then I also set a DS track record at Autobahn South rounding off a season championship. All that with a stock worn out 240SX.

Dee II - Not sure what I'm going to do with this one yet. It's in a little better shape than Dee I. Backup in case something happens to Dee I.

Evil you are a little off on your pricing of the Ariel Atom. Base price $41,995 and for the 245hp Chevy Cobalt engine it's $59,735. I can just imagine what the 300hp one costs.

The $59,735 version does 0-60 in 3.0 seconds and 1/4 mile in 11.5 at 117mph. Z06 tested at the same time ran a 11.8 at 122 mph.

Ha ha...... I knew you couldn't resist looking it up.

I don't think I would enjoy the open cockpit myself. Even 100mph on a rocket wasn't much fun. I'll stick with my EVO especially on days like today!
