Ok so right now i'm driving a 2004 Tiburon Gt V6. So far i have not ran into any problems with this car. It's doing me good so far but i'm looking at starting a family which makes this car not very good as far as its a 2 door. So my question for you guys is that i saw a nice Subaru WRX for 8,900. Which it being a four door makes it better for a family and it also has the nice improvement of 227hp compared to the 187 the tiburon has. I checked kelly blue book and they value my tiburon with 60,000 miles on it for $11,000 retail value and the WRX with 90,000 miles at $14,000. The subaru holds its value more which is nice, the four doors are nice, and the hp gain is nice. But is it worth it? Is it worth the extra 30,000 miles? I'm waiting for the carfax report but i really like to hear from you guys. Since some of you have or owned WRX's are they reliable? I'm just worried about getting screwed. Well thank you for your time and i look forward to your advice. Thanks Mike

Can you afford it? Realistically? Would it be a good economic decision?

2.0 liter WRX.

Bad:

Holy hell turbo lag.
Brakes aren't that great.
That Subaru engine (missfire) sound.
Gas mileage isn't that great. (AWD)
Transmissions aren't very strong.

Good:

Very comfortable on highway cruises.
-awesome seats
-awesome steering wheel
Once rid of the terrible Bridgestone RE92 tires it should perform well.

My $.02

Everything he said up there is true so what it comes down to then is the car itself seems cheap for an 04 Maybe a little beat up? maybe a crappy title , however if its been raced or modded expect a ton of maintainence with a car that has 90k miles on it clutch tranny cv shafts the list is endless but if its a nice one owner or close to it with hwy miles then it seems like the deal of the year ....

in that case let me know if you dont buy it
By the way the subaru motors sound awesome some grandpas mistake the sound for a missfire but thats just because their ears are getting old.

As the wise old saying goes...

The sound the STi makes, kind of sounds like what someone with cerebral palsy would sound like if they were having a seizure.

yeah it would be nice to drive a turbo awd again since i haven't driven my 95 tsi awd in 2 years since its still at d&d. lol. I don't know if it was raced it seems stock it has a boost gauge but i think it might be the optional one from factory. It has a cracked windshield. there seems to be not mods done to it. stock exhaust, rims, nothing done to the interior, not sure though it might have been a college students before due to there being what i think was a college sticker on the back window and some dumbass put a stupid fake bullet hole sticker on the drivers door. I'm going to test drive it on monday and see how it feels and see what the clutch feels like. I saw it at night so i want to see it in the daylight that way i can check the body for dents, scratchs, rust, and check it out and see if it had any mods i couldn't see from outside the car. Plus Subaru seems to keep a better value. And the crash ratings where pretty good. Anyone one here ever own a wrx? Replacement parts cheap or expensive? Anyone on the forums know how to work on them? Well thanks again guys for all your help. Its blue and i think i would have to look in to getting it some sexy bronze rims they look so nice like that. Well thanks and keep the comments coming so far it looks like your all saying to get it if its a good deal.

well to start with i spun a rod bearing and someone told me to go to d & d and that they knew what they were doing so i listen to them and brought it there. Well they had the engine apart i had them do a full rebuild and upgrade all the internals. had the balance shaft removed had it bored .40 over basicly the whole nine yard on the inside of the engine. Then after paying him his outragous price of $6,500 for all the work he did i got it back. I then drove it for like 6 months and the the rod bearing spun again. i brought it back to him and told him to fix it. He told me it was all cover if anything happend to it but when i brought it back he told me that he wasn't fixing it for free. he said since it had a small oil leak and there way fresh oil in it that i must have run it out of oil blew the motor then filled it back up with oil to make it look like it had oil. Will i'm sorry but i thought you where supposed to change the oil every 3,000 miles but i guess not. lol. then he had it for like 3 months and left the doors unlocked and it got broken in to and all my gauges, and my cd, and my flip out dvd player where stolen out of it. then he played run a round and didn't work on it and when i called him he told me that i never told him to fix it so now almost 2 years later he is supposedly fixing it now. Now i guess he wants like 2,500 to fix it again. Hes a rip off and i hope he goes out of business. Well after i get it back i will be selling it with the fully rebuilt motor and with all the added stuff done to it. Just so i don't have to deal with it anymore. This will be the second rebuild and i replaced a few other parts like the transfercase and the rear diff. If anyone is interested i'll take your prices and see what i can do. After its built again it should be fine. Its running a 14b turbo on it.

a, i told you to get a lawyer long ago for dave

b. the wrx you are looking at is a salvage title i'm pretty sure. checked it out myself not long ago, that's why they are asking 8900. it's at that little dealership in Custer... i'm sure that's the one your talking about. but as long as it's clean... it's a fair deal. nothing spectacular, but fair.

hmmm what a downer. what does it mean when there is a salvage title? And then with that is that even worth buying then? God this sucks i was just hopeing it was because of the sales of cars and that there was 90,000 miles on it. thing never work out for me. lol. Ok well thanks i'm still going to look into it but i might just pass then if that is the deal. Why give up a car in excellent condition with a clean a clear title for a car with a salvage title.

You might not get a loan for it, because it has a salvage title.

At first my vote was for the WRX, but the salvaged title thing always scares me. (Thats Just Me though)

I agree with selltech...salvage titles are always a pain for loans and resale... stay away.

I don't think you'll need four doors. It's not like you can't get a baby seat in and out of the back of a two door.

Unless you drive an Audi like mine. Car seat doesnt even come close to fitting in my back seat, let alone anybody else. Then again at the timberattlers autocross we fit 5 people in my car, dont ask me how...remember that Dizzm?? I vote for the SRT4, good buy!

There is ALWAYS a better deal around the corner when it come to cars. Forget salvaged cars. Reliability and safety is one thing but like was said already, loans and resale will be tougher.

Getting the value out of it will be more difficult when the interest rate is a little higher or the resale is a little lower due to that fact alone.

Monsterous skip.

Heres my 2 cents-
Any Salvage Title car, Scary. Plan on repairs and have a hoot.
There is NO RESALE VALUE!! Dont even think about it. Buy it real, real, real cheap.
Any used WRX, EVO, STI, DSM, Turbo anything has been beat-on, thats the truth.

Subarus hold resale value.
Go find a clean one with a good history. There out there.
I know people that can help with service questions.

As far as sound, at idle, with stock exhaust, Yep, they do sound like there missing.
But, the Boxxer rumble & Rally car drive train gear noise is what makes me smile.
The way my STI sounds,
I guess I love the sound of disabled people having seizures. Whatever that means........
