So I'm driving back from Mosinee and I thought I heard a dull pop. I kept driving the 5 miles left of the trip and all seemed well. I get home, hop out of the car and check the tires and sure enought the passenger rear is flat. I fire up the compressor and the tire is fine but the rubber part of the valve stem split where it meets the wheel (never heard of this). Now when I was filling up the tire I could hear the belts/rubber stretching as I inflated it.
My question is did I fuck the tire up driving on to where I need a new one or do I just need a new valve stem?

You'll know once the tire is off.

Care to elaborate, should I look for the pattern of the tire zig zaging? Thing was kinda warm when I felt it, oops.

if there are little chucks all over inside of the tire, its junk. Was it completely flat when you got home? If you drove 5miles of a flat i'm pretty sure it would be junk.

Yeah, it's junk! It might look ok on the outside, but it's ****ed on the inside, don't air it back up and drive on it, bad idea!!!

I aired it up to find the leak but I'm not driving on it. Can someone reccomend me a place to take the wheel that won't mess up the rim itself (19")

After checking the tire out, it doesn't look to bad. You won't know for sure until you get the tire off of there(you have to do it anyway), but i've driven on a flat tire(very very short time, just to get to the gas station), and the tire was just fine.

Wish me luck, well wish the tire and my/or my wallet luck.

valve stems splitting is a common thing i see everyday. mostly due to careless mechanics who don't change valve stems everytime the tires get changed.
