View Full Version : THE SPOT -- What does it really provide?

While reading the 2006 in review thread..... I once again found people complaining about THE SPOT. So I figured I would post my opinion and I'd like to hear yours.

My opinion is there is soo much negative attention surrounding that place that I dont even want to park there anymore. The confused rednecks bumping 2pac, the inexperienced recklass drivers, and the pure obnoxiousness of 85% of the non-racers have ruined it for everyone. Some of you used to think the scenery was a benefit but in the last few years I can't say I've seen anything worth freezing for.

Even though our group is harmless and less destructive to law and order than the loud intoxicated college fucks..... we are still singled out as lawless trouble makers that endanger the lives of the peaceful bartime pedestrians. The "Drolly" thing and associated publications have only made it worse. Make no mistake, hanging out at the current SPOT pretty much profiles you as an asshole of the community. The way I see it, there is risk than a reward, more to lose than to gain. As painful as it may be to possibly miss out on a "big race" ........thats the way its gonna have to be unless we find a new spot or simply eliminate it.

As for suggestions.....I'm not going to volunteer my place but I wouldn't mind meeting up at McDonalds at 10pm and having a coke and smile with you folks. That would work out well for VPT since he could walk over instead of using up all that expensive gas.

I wouldn't be against organizing fun runs on here and the setting the time and place via private message. We could cut the middle-spot out all together. In reality this forum simulates the shit talking of the spot and eliminates the associated profiling. What does the spot really provide?

If you like having a place to pop your hood (if you have one) then post how you feel and justify it. Personally I would go to a place to see the people I want to see and avoid seeing the people that ruin it for everyone.

agree that some of the fella's at "the spot" do creat a proor judement on us from the rest of the community. I feel we should carry our social car meetings that are held every fri/sat night to another spot. McDonalds is not a poor choise, i do like the idea of getting something to eat while BS'ing with everyone.

Kinda like how they are in rapids. See, if we go there though, everyone is still going to follow, it sucks. Unless we go to the east side or something.

agreed. a new spot should be had. possibly change it up a tad even, T-Bell is within walking distance as well for those gas-priced challenged few, not to mention it is open later on the weekends vs McD's or Hardees etc... a few different locations would be nice as well as not to draw constant attention at one place or the other.

the negativity is terrible at the current location, i've been saying that for years. back when we tried BankOne it wasn't too bad, not sure why we left there? but anyways, i'm up for a new location & desired time. i'm sure the Mods on here can send a mass PM out to everyone needed at the same time. (or even a mass email to the desired folks...)

I know the current spot is used for recruiting purposes...... but it really doesn't function the way it was intended to...... It would almost be better to have some of those free internet business cards made up with an invite to the CWSCC forum. Short and sweet and delivered to people we would like to have join in the festivities. We can hand them out or put them under the whipers of nice cars we see around town.

PDSM, I really doubt the rednecks will follow us around. I also think that we will have less visits from Johnny Law once they are out of the picture. I never did trust them.

I'm on a ton of different car forums for various regions and most "clubs" meet at some kind of a sit-down establishment...... that or they use someones home/shop as a meeting place. Not to say we even need a "place".... the big block guys pretty much conduct all business on WSD. We could do the same though it would be fun have a destination allowing us to get out of the house.

There is one constant in street racing. You can try to eliminate it, but you will never - never replace hanging out uptown.

Sure you got your fancy pants computers and you can pm this and message that. All you're doing is making your activity exclusive. If that's what you want that's fine, but you will get bored very quickly because it will be the same people all the time.

Yeah I don't like a lot of the rednecks uptown either, but actually it's just a few bad apples and you are always going to have that. If you'd get to know some of those guys in the trucks uptown most of them are OK. You have to take the good with the bad. Ying and yang.

As far as meeting at a restaurant we already do that. It's called Taco Tuesday. Meeting at a restaurant is great, but eventually someone has to bitch about the location - the time - the distance. Whatever. We try to meet up for Spaghetti Sunday, but everyone ends up bitching about that too.

Why do we need to hang uptown??? Fresh faces. That's where you meet people and see the new cars that people drive. Drag racing gets stale very very quickly if it's the same people every weekend. New people and cars to race is what keeps SPSRA alive. Hanging out uptown is the heart of this organization like it or not.

I really dont think that UPTOWN is the only place to meet new people and see new rides.

I like the McDonald's parking lot idea or what about switching sides of the Shopko parking lot? Maybe across from Bank One.

TARGET!!! Culvers does close at 10, but that would kick ass for the nights i work, i can just walk over and leave the talon in the culvers lot.

I will not vote because there's too many different reason y. There is alot of good reason and ideas you guys came up with. I would perfer keeping the same spot then maybe if we all get hungry lets all take a lil cruise over to Mcdonalds or where ever. Making a decent cruise would help out alot of new people to follow along to see whats up because there's quite some nice cars all driving together. I would have followed if I was new. When I first went to uptown to meet new people it was quite awesome. Then went did some matches but after a couple weekends coming down I figured that we would have a cruise here and there. It would bring alot more too. I have heard others say "I think its just boring standing around and talk all nite." Well we dont really but most of the night we do. Maybe we could do something start this at 9pm and go for lil crusie get some ice cream and hang out there a bit and talk than maybe we could head back to the spot and talk and think of some matches than after we do those than head to something like taco bell for a late nite snack. It would be a blast I would think.
