I finally got a road bike. It's a Trek 1500 with Shimano 105 components. It was a pretty good deal. I ended up buying it new.

I'm pretty stoked. I just rode today. First Triathlon is July 12th. I hope by next summer I can get into a half Ironman

I was reading a thread on Honda-Tech about bikes (weird place for it, I know) but there's to be what seems like a whole cult following of people for these single gear race bikes. Anyone know anything about them??

Yeah I've seen some of them, but don't know much about them. Maybe try roadbikereview.com (I think it's .com, search it on google) They might have some info.

A couple of single speed bikes rode past downtown last night.

Single speed bikes are very simple, lighter, and efficient. Most people do not take full advantage of their bike gears anyway so it makes sense to have just one gear.

Then you have the people riding "fixed gear" bikes now days. It has no freewheel, if your moving the cranks are turning.
