I do have to laugh over the bride's very understandable concern that the damn thing might not even start! How true.

Its all in the OWNER of the car. Owner reflects the reliability of the car.
Poor Owner = Poor Car

Poor owner - poor car. I don't think so. All cars break down, but some models break way more than others. Yes there is a pattern here.

BS, Car SHOULD NOT break down if proper maintenance is performed. Since DSM's are *primarily* owned by young kids that don’t know shit about cars and can’t afford anything more than a few g's, DSM's get a bad rep because everyone sees these kids with their cheap AWD turbo car with a MBC breaking.
Wait 5-10 years when evo's and STi's are all below $5k, your going to see that shit break just as much!

Wait 5-10 years when evo's and STi's are all below $5k, your going to see that shit break just as much! exactly, we're talking about a 10yr old car that has seen abuse and been resold 50 times by now. that's why dsm's have a bad rep for the most part. cheap speed...
pick two... cheap, fast, reliable.... kids go for cheap/fast, and then reliability get's thrown to the curb.

It is how a car is driven also. A dsm is allways pounded on because they are fast and fun. A honda is driven like a grandma car because they are slow and boring. :P

VERY VERY True, hard for something to break when there is no stress put on it.

Just piss poor engineering. Kinda like chevy oil pumps.

Ahh good example VPT. Oil pump in Zoey - not a failure from lack of maintenance.
DSM's were breaking right off the assebly line. I was around when those cars came out. The broke when new and even more so now that they are old.
Its called recall!
Erv had a good rear end in his "Real" R/T as well.
