Well my new car is due for it's very first oil change, and was wondering something. Is synthetic that much better that conventional oil. Whatever I choose I would like to keep it that way for the life of the car. Any thoughts.
And how much more is it than the regular stuff. I never bought synthetic before. Just courious.

usually over double the price. normal Mobil is approx $1.90/qt, while their Syn Mobil 1 is usually just over $4.00, from my experiance buying it a Fleet Farm.

But if your car has used conventional oil its entire life, its bad to switch over correct?

You can switch back and fourth. I run synthetic oil in the Type R in the summer and convetional oil in the winter. I was told it would cause leaks, but have had no problems. One thing you should avoid is mixing different viscosities.
SPSRA if you don't mind paying the extra $$$$ I'd go with the synthetic. You can also go farther between changes with synthetic.

hmm..i read that same thing with the leaks, that the synthetic breaks up crud the conventional makes and "exposes" leaks. Maybe i'll try synthetic next summer.

I am a fan of convensional oil. It never failed me once and I have never had an oil related problem what so ever.

On a car that doesn't get punished conventional oil is plenty good especially if you change it every 3k miles.
I only run the expensive stuff in the EVO because the factory manual tells me to. But I run it for 6k miles instead of 3k.

I change mine every 3 thousand miles..maybe a 100 later if ever, such as the GSS autocross, i was right at 3000 miles, big reason why i did an oil change between the day and night cap.

PDSM, i would NOT switch to syn now after using convential for over 100k or whatever you ahve on there. i did that on my car, and got instant leaks. however, i also did the diesel/oil cleanout for 50miles as well.
i beat on my cars all the time with normal Mobil oil & Pure-One filters. OR... you could do like i do on my Honduh... add oil as needed, change oil/filter once a year. much cheaper that way! :D

Ok, good to hear someone thinks like that too.

SPSRA's car is brand flipping new.
Just use whatever the manual tells you to use. Its a grocery getter you dont need synthetic unless Mazda says you do and even then you probably dont need it.
Cars have been running well over 200K miles on normal oil, I see no reason for the extra cost on something that isn't going to help anything.
